Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

What happens to the tax credit if your AGI >300k. So the tax credit phase out or completely gone?
Again this is for models with delivery now. It might change in March. So if I order an 7 seater I might lose the credit. Am I right?

From alot of the reviews, seems like the 20in wheels make for a bumpier ride and less mileage. That white interior is sexy AF though, I would've gotten it if it wasn't for my kids, and I wear jeans alot.
I would have gotten white too, but the wife said a hard no. Way too messy with kids. And flashy. For the blue jeans issue, I know you can put down some protectant that prevents those types of stains.

If your referring to the Federal Rebate that relates to the Clean Vehicles Purchased in 2023 or After. If its a used EV there are quite a few more rules, such as used price needs to be below 25K. Go here for details: https://www.irs.gov/credits-deduc...cle-credit

Looks like he compared a new standard range vs 2020 LR.

Interesting that the new is slower on standard, I assume the LR would be a bit heavier with bigger battery so does that mean it's even slower?
There's other videos and articles online. Heard a range of reasons from the use of the megacaster to paint. Shrugs

So if we ordered one and it had serious panel gap issues or paint issues can we reject it and wait for another or do they just fix it?

I cancelled my order. Tesla is trying to push cars with defects on consumers. Also, if prices are slashed now, why not wait and see how they will price things in a couple of months. Here's my Twitter post about the defects

Check inventory in Socal. Also if you want to order one they'll have it in 2 weeks. Giga Austin is fully ramped now. Don't fall for it folks. My advice buy a used one is many Tesla owners trying to sell or wait to see if they'll make improvements, adding back lidar/radar.

$60k is a lot of money for a depreciating asset. Buy one if you're in the market. Don't buy one just because you think it's on sale.

Our 2022 income just crossed 300k by a couple of hundred dollars.
Any suggestions or ideas to retroactively bring it down? Or is it too late now?
I know it is the lowest of 2023 or 2022 AGI. But with increments etc factored in, I'm doubtful 2023 will be lesser than 300k.
Also filing separately will not benefit as the incomes are not in 50:50 ratio.
Any suggestions or recommendations?
You can reduce your adjusted gross income in the following ways:

Contribute to a Health Savings Account. If you participate in an eligible health plan, you may have the option to contribute to a health savings account or HSA up to the following amounts: ...
Retirement savings. ...
Student loan interest deduction. ...
Educator expenses.

What you might consider serious, Tesla may not. Quality control issues seem to be a common talking point. I wanted a shiny new toy when this thread started but after the reviews and online posts, I've decided that I value quality more so I'll probably get a Toyota and call it a day.

Yep. Sucks because I'm at $170k but I work full remote and I have to rent a super expensive apartment to not have my desk in my living room like a worker drone. It's amazing to me that my employer can just close their office space and I get no tax write offs for shouldering that cost for them.

This state has billions in excess revenue from tech workers and I don't see what California is doing with it. State income tax is 10%, my sales tax is 10%, then I have a bunch of CASDI and all that crap. The irony is the main need for a car here is because Public transport is legitimately dangerous due to mentally Ill population.
Question: if you work fully remote, what is stopping you from moving to a lower cost of living area?
