Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

I cancelled my order. Tesla is trying to push cars with defects on consumers. Also, if prices are slashed now, why not wait and see how they will price things in a couple of months. Here's my Twitter post about the defects

Yeah Tesla will fix it or replace the entire piece or panel for free. This is nothing new with Tesla issues with deliveries, but they really take care of you with quick and free repairs.

BMW gave me a hard time with a spider inside a brand new X5 headlight and then charged me for the headlight and labor.

IRA should do the trick.
IRA contributions have an income threshold much lower than the 300K Tesla threshold.

for 2022
married filing jointly or qualifying widow(er)
AGI: $109,000 or less
- a full deduction up to the amount of your contribution limit ($6,000, $7,000 if you're age 50 or older)

AGI: more than $109,000 but less than $129,000
- a partial deduction.

married filing jointly or qualifying widow(er)
AGI: $129,000 or more
- no deduction.

Yep. Sucks because I'm at $170k but I work full remote and I have to rent a super expensive apartment to not have my desk in my living room like a worker drone. It's amazing to me that my employer can just close their office space and I get no tax write offs for shouldering that cost for them.

This state has billions in excess revenue from tech workers and I don't see what California is doing with it. State income tax is 10%, my sales tax is 10%, then I have a bunch of CASDI and all that crap. The irony is the main need for a car here is because Public transport is legitimately dangerous due to mentally Ill population.
I totally hear you. The people that do make money here in CA just end up subsidizing the rich. I'm in SF, so all of this really hurts. I thought someone mention that we still qualify for $2k rebate if we are over the income limit?

Yea, I was thinking OR backdoor roth but they won't get the job done either; didn't remember income limits, long since eligible.

Question: if you work fully remote, what is stopping you from moving to a lower cost of living area?
Weather, fam & politics. also since we're in a Tesla thread, other supercharger networks pale by comparison

Yes IRA is ruled out for a combined income of 300K.
Any other ways apart from HSA, educator expenses, or maxing out 401K contributions?
Also, I guess no option to fix it for 2022 in case one is just over the limit of 300K.

You'll probably get a raise this year and then you won't have to think about it, W2ers all eventually just get used to getting bent over. laugh out loud

Thanks for megacaster info.

For color, I think the German factory received a new red and quicksilver. The red is supposedly a bunch of coats so it changes colors on shades and shadows. The quicksilver looks kinda cool. I think both are to make their way to the US, but idk about timeframe

I was discussing how the EV6 was $20k cheaper than a Model Y when I bought it last summer. Then you asked how it was $20k cheaper and I explained. Not baloney, you just asked a question and didn't know the context of the discussion.
hmm ev6 were going 10-15kmarkup.. iono how that could be cheaper by 20k vs msrp tesla
