Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

$ 3.19 is today's price of regular unleaded gas in my area. I live in MA. I pay 25.77c/KW (supplier Rate) and a delivery Rate of 16.095c/KW. Most people who are a using Electricity rates for gas cost savings comparisons are not including the delivery rates. Gas cost savings are frequently cited as the reason to transition to EV. There are several other reasons to transition to EV, GAS cost savings is no longer one of them.
I have SRP and I just checked my bill to see if there was a delivery rate. There's none.
I'm lucky that our rate is 8.32 cents per kWh during off peak hours total. https://www.srpnet.com/price-plan...ctric/ez-3

Never said it was smart summon. Noticed quite few wheel rashes on Tesla cars, probably because of the black rims. Asked how this is possible with so many smart features. No warnings given to the driver?
Do you have stats for non smart car?

I don't know if wheel rashes are a good indicator if a car is smart

My wife hits the curb all the time regardless which car she is driving

The Real Reason It Is Hard To Recommend Buying Electric Vehicles In 2023
https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/news/the-real-reason-it-is-hard-to-recommend-buying-electric-vehicle... [msn.com]
misleading article. What does $7500 has to do with valuation of the vehicle. it's not like Tesla offering these $7500, it all depends on taxpayer's income status.

nowadays, for household like myself who owns a solar, electrify is the future.

Plot twist (EV owner)! Where do you drive from (to SB)? Wanna help you find the most cost effective solution.
From LA...I get on the 101 at Van Nuys.

As for free hotel charging...you have stay there!

My bad on the .15/kwh...it was with my Bolt, so not a Tesla charger. But you can get an adapter if you do a lot of travelling or need to charge away from home.

It's similar for me. $0.083/kWh and no delivery charge, though I do have a flat $14 connection fee from my poco.

In case other folks might be wondering, if you use the web version of Slickdeals (vs. the app), you can add people to an ignore list. That reduces this 400+ page thread to 3-5 posts a page and makes it much easier to read and follow.

Some may find this helpful. Now if only the app worked the same way!

Thank you for this info! Those 3 need to be muted for sure. Nothing to do with the deal.

Even if you can afford one? If you don't qualify for the rebate it kills the thought of getting one. Too much money for the car. Does it fit your use case? Will you really get that much use do you want to worry about waiting at a charging station for a longer trip.

My wife was halfway considering this until we read that they removed the parking sensors from 2023 models. That's crazy.

My brother has a $23K 2022 Corolla with those sensors.

Why would Tesla think this is a good idea ? 😂
