Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Just a reminder according to some slickdealers that a $500 price raise is actually a "good thing" because lowering prices so much was "unethical and immoral"

Imagine being a slickdealer and saying the words "its unethical and immoral for a company to lower prices"

Somehow taking advantage of a price mistake at walmart for example to buy a $1000 item for $100? Good.
Company intentionally lowering prices? Bad.
I guess the price will fall more going forward. The EV price has to fall much more for greater adoption. Tesla will eventually need something similar to iPhone SE.

EVs still few years away from full adoption.

news of the Kia EV9 specs/range leaked and thats a big suv and you figure it would have longer range for families and road trips. Nope, same usual 250-290 range, and of course thats probably like Tesla ratings, where you have to drive slow AF to reach that in perfect conditions

EVs need 300+ range WHILE driving 75mph during winter

2 weeks of a glorious discount. It's still a great deal now, so order and lock in your price before they keep steadily hiking it up again.

well, they are upgrading front lights to matrix LED lights, and that is on going right now. currently only the performance version is guaranteed to have it, regular one is a hit or miss (more miss than hit). But tesla is in the process of phasing out the older headlight and replacement all with new matrix lights. and it is safe to assume the later you take delivery of the car, the higher chance you have. if you are buying now, it is almost a certainly that you will get matrix light.

the same goes for next gen radar sensors. the later you have the car, the higher chance you got the next gen sensor.

so ideally you want your car to be delivered late February/ early march before tax credit changes. i am actually not very happy at all when tesla changed my estimated delivery window from mid February to this week.
Who said you are going to get sensor in Feb?

500 dollar increase probably give you matrix lights and next gen sensors.
Which is well worth it I suppose

anyways, bought Y on 13th, get vin a few days later and is ready to pick up this week. seems like Tesla had no issues building cars despite the increase in demand
Elon Musk need more $ for all the on going lawsuits !

This is just a rush peak, we will get more discount by end of this or next quarter,
Factories keep spitting out EV so they have to sell them.

Tesla still has plenty of gross profit margin without substantial competition. I will wait till Dec or early next year when the competition heats up, and Tesla is also forced to improve build quality, and lower profit margins.

According to IRS website:

" A vehicle's eligibility for the new clean vehicle credit is generally based on the criteria that apply as of the date a vehicle is placed in service, meaning the date the taxpayer takes delivery of the vehicle. "

do you think, the folks who ordered 5 seater MY LR AWD configuration with an MSRP under $55K at the time of ordering and have not received the car yet, will be eligible for $7500 tax credit since the MSRP for that configuration at the time of delivery will be above the IRS threshold of $55K?
I think so.
Believe one need to submit VIN and invoice to claim a credit which will show the MYLR config below $55k to qualify. Time will tell though...

Interestingly, now as the price increased by $500, it will be none 20" wheel option available for any new bookings to qualify.

All these claims are speculative based on partial information available from some tweets and portals.
No firm dates tied to specific parts built in the car.
It's hit or miss right now and for matrix light and comfort suspensions for MYLR.
Wish everyone who did not get the delivery yet will get the new parts.

Price hike is supply demand , everything else is just assumption about updated hardware, they raised the wall connector price by 20% , 350-425$ , juicing 500$ will improve gross margin a inch still making it friendly for consumers for federal credit based on there eligibility. I still love whole idea of hassle free buying instead of dealership price negotiations which is stressful for some like me.

I got my VIN this morning for M3P. Looks like delivery date updated to Feb 10-17th also.
They are asking for proof of insurance to be uploaded. Looks based on decoders mine is coming from Fremont Factory and I am in NC

11 Location of Manufacture F = Fremont, CA, USA

CU are dragging their feet. Anyone have luck refinancing with them at the similar lower rates? Might go direct with Tesla and then attempt refi.

EV price has to fall for mass adoption, but not the price of M3 or MY. There will be smaller versions, lower driving range, less features, so on. M3 is already at 35k+taxes now, and a stripped down version with smaller range, a drop of another 5-7k will put it in range of all. But then the same folks will complain of lack of features, sensors, and range. It will be struggle, a 10-20 year play, to get to mass adoption.

A bit confused here.
I have an order but waiting for delivery.
Price went up for all orders (pending delivery too) or just new orders being placed from today forward?
Tesla always honor the existing price when they raise prices, unless you charge your configure. So as long as you keep going with what you originally ordered (not changing color, toeing, etc.), you will just pay what's already in your order agreement.
