Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Now compare a 2023 Corolla Hybrid at base $23,000 which has more interior room, that gets 54mpg and your numbers fail big time. Fact one could buy two Corolla's for the price of the Tesla 3.
yea but how will you drive both corollas at the same time? ConfusedConfusedConfused

Hello, does Tesla accept credit cards as down payment? I plan to charge on 2 cards for $4000 each plus the rest from bank debit , thanks!
They do not. I set up an ACH transfer in their Plaid service.

Are you able to delete the account information after making the purchase? I don't want it to remain there.

Ha ha. You don't. You use the money saved from buying the second vehicle to do something more meaningful.

With plaid its safe it wont be there.. Also if you have 2 factor authentication with your banks its sends a code .. you can turn that on to be in safe side.

Or 3 2018 Corollas, or 4 2012 Corollas... or 500 bikes from Walmart. All equally useless comparisons.

Whoever said anything about a Tesla? The article you posted was about EVs vs ICE...aside from a picture of a Tesla charger, Tesla is NOT EVEN MENTIONED in the article.

And I drive a Bolt. Which can now be bought for $26000. I won't even bring up the $7500 fed tax incentive.

And no one, at least not on the Westside of LA, is cross shopping a Tesla and Corolla Hybrid. Maybe they'll pick up one for their housekeeper, though.

Are you really comparing a Corolla to a Model 3?

As of 1/26/2023, in the USA....

Avg Gas Price = $3.50/gal (Regular)

(https://gasprices.aaa.com/)

Avg Residential kwh = $0.1564 (https://www.eia.gov/electricity/m...epmt_5_6_a)

Avg MPG for Cars = 24
(https://afdc.energy.gov/data/10310)

Avg MPGe for EV = 0.35kWh/mi
(https://news.energysage.com/how-m...ty%20daily)

So, let's look at their math from the article.

"However, a recent report from the Anderson Economic Group (AEG) found that fueling costs from mid-priced ICE-powered vehicles are lower than similarly priced electric vehicles. Combustion drivers pay about $11.29 per 100 miles on the road. EV drivers who charge up at home spend about $11.60 per 100 miles. "

ICE
  • 100 miles costs $11.29 they claim.
  • The Average Car (at 24 mpg) will use 4.17 gallons to go 100 miles.
  • 4.17 x $3.50 = $14.60.
  • Let's pretend the car gets DOUBLE the average MPG, so 48mpg.
  • So it will use 2.1 gallons, at a cost of about $7.30
Their calculations show their test vehicle gets about 31mpg at current gas prices to get $11.29 - OK, Believable.

EV
  • 100 miles costs $11.60 they claim.
  • The average EV at 0.35kWh/mi would burn 35kWh going 100 miles.
  • At the average price of $0.1564 that would be $5.48
The average consumption of the non-performance 3 and Y is well less than .35kWh/mi so this figure will only improve. Bolt, I3, also more efficient than that. Maybe ID4, the new BMW EVs, or F150 Lightning worse?

In order to get thier claim of $11.60 for 100 miles in an EV, your cost would have to be $0.33/KwH for 35 kWh.

With a very lead foot and constant supercharging, yup - you'll get there. But the whole point of EVs is that you can charge at home, for a lot cheaper (for 99%+ of the population)

TLDR; Horseshit Article with very little real information.
