Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Per Elon directly, you should buy a new-gen Tesla either right at the beginning (best QC) or after it's already in stable/wide-scale production (all bugs worked out).

If you buy it during a heavy ramp-up period, there's bound to be issues.
I bought my 3 in March 2019, I think it went pretty well since there's no real problems with the vehicle, though the paint showed some (minor) drip marks.

likely. ordered mine in 1/19 in dallas and EDD is 2/19 - 3/26 and i doubt it's before March. sorry :/
Remember, there isn't a known deadline yet. Could be March 1. March 31. Somewhere in between or delayed again.

Also, you'll still get 3750 back.

I dont think since they made around 15k per car last quater.. now the price cuts they might be making like 4-5k and their stocks are moving back too..
Tesla is projecting less sales this year. The discount and tax credit is great momentum they'll likely want to keep going.

Let's see in a few weeks!!!

What did you / will you do with your Model 3? What were the stats on that? I'm in a similar boat. For me, Mid-range 2019 with FSD. I've been offered 21k a few places, and today I was offered $14k. :-O Looks like I'm going to have to sell it myself.
I traded it in to a local dealer for 29k. Tesla offered me 24,500k (offer last year was 44k), so decided to just give it to the dealer instead. My model 3 had 58k on it

Excuse me growth vs 50% target prior year

Deep price cuts this month have positioned Tesla as the initiator of a price war, but its forecast of a 37% rise in car volume for the year, to 1.8 million vehicles, was down from 2022's pace.

Have you ever considered - 37% vs. 50% growth forecast is not an indicator of demand, rather capacity? There is a finite amount of batteries, manufacturing and transportation capacity. 1000 individual things have to scale, and not all of them do.

From what I've read, it has a lot of limitations

• Designated highway only (no streets)
• Below 40mph
• There must be cars in front of you
• Must be able to take over within 10 seconds (no sleeping)
• Will not change lanes
• Does not work at night
• Does not work in rain, fog, or below 3 Celsius
• Does not work if there is construction nearby

So in this exact certain scenario, it will operate level 3.
Holy crap!

This is different. This feature lets the driver dont even need to touch steering and it allows driver to read or do something else without the need to look on the traffic. Its mainly for peak hour traffic not for highway thats why slow speed. Different feature than tesla which requires driver to hold the steering wheel and focus on the road.
The reason you have to check in the FSD wheel is regulatory, not technical limitation. I would feel less comfortable taking my eyes off the road with those many limitations than FSD. In fact, when I initiate FSD, it is for the expressed reason of taking my eyes off the road. This is painfully easy to do in a traffic jam, apparently the only scenario MB 'feature' might actually work; unless it's dark, rainy, foggy, cold, near construction & below 40. BuT LvL III ThO.

took delivery at the delivery center today, think about share some information for the first time tesla buyers
1. if you were paying cash, it is actually a two step process. in the final payment page, you first link a bank with sufficient fund, then once it is added, it is another step to pay. so you could link the bank first before you decide to pay. it is important to know that the bank you adding must have sufficient amount, or else it doesn't let you add (which was why i was confused and thought the bank adding and payment might be the same step, but it is actually two steps)
2. all tesla i saw today have some sort of panel gaps, and they are all inconsistent.. but with in the 5mm tesla spec. it is actually not terrible but it is noticeable (i have the austin car, and i don't think the quality is any better than fremont)
3, paint. mine came with two paint defects, maybe i am unlucky but for a what is supposed to be improved production line, this is pretty poor quality wise.
4. that said, my car has no rattle nor wind noise whatsoever, so the car is well put together interior wise.
5. the benefit of pick up in person is that as long as the car is not outside of the lot, you have not accepted the vehicle. so if you have any issues that you want to reject, pick up in person is the only way.
6. but if you were going to keep the vehicle, then there is no difference between pick up in person or delivery to your drive way. sales agent won't rectify any issues you have, you have to book via service center before you car hit first 100 miles (that's when you can point out any issues)

over all, very satisfied experience, in and out in 30 minutes (most time was waiting for the temporary license plate) i would not go back the the traditional dealership after this. in fact, next time i would just take drive way delivery.
