Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Good luck! Please do look your car over carefully. I used this delivery checklist [macheforum.com] to ensure the car was in OK shape and avoid post-delivery hassle and "within Tesla tolerance" responses.

My Boston-ordered MYLR had a trunk hutch that was indented 3/4" on the right side. They offered to wait for the new VIN (without a delivery date of course), or send it to body shop. In the hind side, I wish I asked for a new VIN as mine has been in body shop since 1/19 without a delivery date on horizon. The new one would have probably been delivered by now.

The worst experience buying a new car ever
Thanks for the pointers. Much appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the poor experience. Do you have any photos of that?

I just spoke with a good friend who is a mortgage broker. He doesn't understand how tower can offer a 3% loan. He said prime is just under 5%. He suggested that there must be other fees tied up in the loan. You seem to be well-versed in this process. Do you have any thoughts?

There were no fees except the $35 donation. My process was fairly easy and I was able to get loan approved and disbursed in 1 weeks time.

Didn't feel like going through 500+pages. 1) By when IRS $7500/ tax credit promo is getting over? and 2) In order to get $7500 IRS credit, does the car has to be ordered OR delivered before the IRS deadline?
March 1st, the government may change the credit rules. Must be registered before March 1st in order to qualify tax credit. It is tax credit 2023 that you will file next year, not this year.

Wow you must have caught this early on. My loan status was approved pending fairly quick. Submitted the requested docs and notary within 1day.
My membership status is what is holding the loan up stuck since 1/18/2023 as Referred.
Once the membership is setup how long does it take Tower to pay Tesla the financed portion?

I'd been considering getting a model 3 for a while and the drop in price plus tax rebate (that I was alerted to through this slick deal) made me jump on it.
- I considered performance but wanted black and it would have taken me over 55k with that option. Plus read that 20" tires are rougher and noisier. So got regular M3 in black which was available locally
- Ordered on 15Jan for pick up 25Jan.
- Tesla wanted to give me 3k below KBB for trade in. Found best deal with Carvana. $500 below KBB but super easy to process. All online. They picked up my car and got money via direct deposit next day.
- Tesla process was all online in the app (financing, proof of insurance). Pickup was a breeze. Would not have even had to go into store except to transfer my license.
- Checked car all over. No gaps, dents, or any issues. Been driving every day since and loving it
- I did originally order the wall charger but don't want to pay 750-1500 to install. Instead I'm using mobile charger, or if needed for quick juice I bought converter plus extension to dryer outlet Have also used supercharger once. $6 for 70% charge.

Overall very happy with the car and the process.

For people getting their loan from Tower FCU... How long was the process? Trying to decide when I should apply, not knowing if I will get the car before march... Thx.

Apply for the bank account now and sit tight. Wait until you know the delivery date ETA, and then apply for the loan, assuming you will get at least 2 weeks before picking up. If you already have the account open, I'm assuming 2 weeks should suffice to get the loan processed. This way you don't have to worry about them pulling your credit report and processing the loan unnecessarily, in case the car is not delivered by March.

Tower Process folks:

This step is after the selecting your eligibility:
- I am a member of an association that is within Tower's Filed of membership > Dropdown > select Tower Cares Foundation

When you do the membership, which setup do you select ? (see attachment)

They have no fees involved. They are a not-for-profit organization. In all likelihood, they have members that pay interest on Tower credit cards or other such items that offset having low cost auto loans.

Throw in that they only work with citizens and permanent residents, then it makes sense that eliminating profit and some potential for charge offs helps them get lower than the competition. I'd venture to say they also keep their costs low and that's why they have such a traditional paper-speed process.
