Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Wow you must have caught this early on. My loan status was approved pending fairly quick. Submitted the requested docs and notary within 1day.
My membership status is what is holding the loan up stuck since 1/18/2023 as Referred.
Once the membership is setup how long does it take Tower to pay Tesla the financed portion?
What account number to put on the power of attorney?

Anticipate 3-4 weeks (at a minimum). Maybe slightly shorter, maybe slightly longer but everyday that goes by they receive more applications that push back the review period.
Applied my TCU loan on Thursday evening(1/26), changed pending status on Saturday and loan got approved this morning. Surprised how quit the loan got approved

A little more than six months after it (lied about the need to, my words) raised prices on the Mustang Mach-E, Ford said it would now be slashing prices on its flagship electric vehicle as well as increasing its production targets for the year.

Just last August, Ford raised prices on the Mach-E by as much as $10,000 on some trims, citing increased material costs and supply chain constraints.

I just spoke with a good friend who is a mortgage broker. He doesn't understand how tower can offer a 3% loan. He said prime is just under 5%. He suggested that there must be other fees tied up in the loan. You seem to be well-versed in this process. Do you have any thoughts?
No additional fees. I'm not sure how they're able to offer this rate but they're not the only credit union doing so. Gold Coast Credit Union is offering 2.75%.

For those who are further in delivery process. How did you get Auto insurance to add the VIN for new car? My agent is telling me he needs a start date (delivery) and needs to know financing details. I have my VIN but not able to schedule pick up yet. Also no response from Tower CU so not sure if I am financing or not. I assume I can add the insurance details once appointment is scheduled ?
How'd you get around this? I have everything uploaded to Tower except for Proof of Insurance listing the MY which is still pending delivery. My agent is telling me the same thing, that it can't be added until the vehicle is in my possession. Were you able to get Tower to ease up on this requirement?

It does have a header of what is a required product. So what is unclear? If you want a checking account, pick it. If not, don't pick it. I'm not following why there is confusion here.
I've assisted them as much as I can. Not sure where the lack of clarification is either but it's really a quite simple process, just takes time.

Hey, do you know anyone in the SDmods community who had recently brought this vehicle and could create a potential savings breakup for fellow SDers? 🤔 And also put this as a Frontpage deal.. just asking!

That was my concern before we had a black car and felt that black is no hotter than any other color. In fact black colors dissipates heat just as fast as you're driving. So myth has been busted.
This.

The car I traded in was white merc and I loved it but don't think the Tesla looks as good in white. Much prefer it on black. Plus pretty much every tesla I see out on the road is white.

Anyone got approval from USSFCU for a loan? Curious to see what rates you were given.

We just got an approval for 3.49% not the < 3% I was hoping, but still better than the 5.34% from Tesla.

took delivery at the delivery center today, think about share some information for the first time tesla buyers
1. if you were paying cash, it is actually a two step process. in the final payment page, you first link a bank with sufficient fund, then once it is added, it is another step to pay. so you could link the bank first before you decide to pay. it is important to know that the bank you adding must have sufficient amount, or else it doesn't let you add (which was why i was confused and thought the bank adding and payment might be the same step, but it is actually two steps)
2. all tesla i saw today have some sort of panel gaps, and they are all inconsistent.. but with in the 5mm tesla spec. it is actually not terrible but it is noticeable (i have the austin car, and i don't think the quality is any better than fremont)
3, paint. mine came with two paint defects, maybe i am unlucky but for a what is supposed to be improved production line, this is pretty poor quality wise.
4. that said, my car has no rattle nor wind noise whatsoever, so the car is well put together interior wise.
5. the benefit of pick up in person is that as long as the car is not outside of the lot, you have not accepted the vehicle. so if you have any issues that you want to reject, pick up in person is the only way.
6. but if you were going to keep the vehicle, then there is no difference between pick up in person or delivery to your drive way. sales agent won't rectify any issues you have, you have to book via service center before you car hit first 100 miles (that's when you can point out any issues)

over all, very satisfied experience, in and out in 30 minutes (most time was waiting for the temporary license plate) i would not go back the the traditional dealership after this. in fact, next time i would just take drive way delivery.
Thanks a lot for all that info. Super helpful. Do you know if you have issues with the car ie gaps or something doesn't work. Do you not accept the car until problems are rectified? Just leave it there with the explanation? Pick it up later? Super helpful.

Agreed! This is going to get interesting. Popcorn

My buddy pre-ordered the Mach-E several months ago. He reached out to his Ford sales representative today and was informed they will be invoicing him at the lower amount. woot

black is a little more work to keep "clean" but it truly is the best looking color for any vehicle.

Really speaks to the quality of a Tesla. If a quality product you'd be surprised if you heard any rattling or creaking. Tesla is just the opposite. People are surprised when they don't have paint, gap, or rattling//squeaking issues. Just saying..............
Really speaks more to your negative bias. You're trying to make a car that has no problems whatsoever upon delivery a bad thing?LMAOLMAO Can't make this stuff up! Expecting problems and getting none vs Expecting no problems and getting problems? Apparently you view expecting no problems and getting problems as the positive scenario. I'm betting the majority of us prefer the opposite, no problems. Big Grin
