Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

I view expecting no problems as a sign of quality. I view expecting issues as a lack of quality and where most Tesla buyers seem to be by the comments they leave.
Isn't there some sort of checklist being shared to help buyers identify all the issues they can expect? C'mon man...

Item 1. Doors open
Item 2. Doors close
Item 3. Windshield is sealed
Item 4. All 4 wheels are the same size and match

etc................
That's the way you view it. That's your prerogative. I don't. I see expecting no problems as Pollyanna. Look at the new Tundra for example. No one expecting issues from Tundra. Surprise! Even MB and Porsche sometimes have issues. Part of the reason they rate so high is because they are quick to rectify any and all problems. There appears to be a list for Tesla from what I've read, and there "should" be a list for all new automobiles.
And maybe you forgot. The person you responded to was someone who picked up their new Tesla and found no problems! You viewed that as a bad thing because he was checking and found nothing. That was a huge stretch on your part.

Process was slow, took like 1-2 weeks or so. Applied to a few credit unions and have not even heard back from the others lol.
Yes, I was looking at reviews for USSFCU. Not real good. It was a low rate though. I'm "had" a super sweet time with PenFed, but their rates are not competitive this time around.
Thanks again for the update. Good luck.

Okay now do Ford total sales vs Tesla total sales. We all know it's only a matter of time before numbers shift. I like Tesla's just like the next person, but let's not be unrealistic here. They have first movers advantage but it won't last for decades when all the main players are EV as well. Just comes with the business.
Def won't last for decades though I have been on $F Lightning waiting list for 19mo with no end in sight, a gazillion price hikes in meantime.

They said it, I just spelled it out....

To achieve a reduction of cost as high as 50% (undefined in details, but probably related to hardware/production), Tesla would probably have to apply many new technologies to simplify everything possible. Another thing would be the production of millions of units annually.

My delivery date updated to Feb 4th to 13th now about week earlier than expected. Doesn't look like GCCU or Tower is moving fast enough and I may just have to do Tesla Finance and Refi later. For the down payment am I required to do the plaid connection to my bank account? I was planning on bring a cashiers check for the down payment / remainder.

I'm in Texas, so the rules might be a little different. But both times I bought my Teslas, they don't accept any payment at day/time of delivery. It needs to be electronic payment received ahead of delivery.

Was reading a lot of negative reviews about this CU. I do like the lower interest compared to what Penfed pre-approved me for but going this route scares me with the waiting any another credit inquiry for the loan.
I just got off the phone with penfed. Sadly their interest rate isn't very good. It's higher than Tesla's rate, which I find out now it's Wells Fargo. What rate are you getting from PenFed? I read from someone here stating he had a 4% rate because it's an EV. I was told they have no different rate for EV at PenFed.

Only item I can add to this is for the cashier's check we didn't have anything in the memo line and it was accepted without issue.

it is the MSRP - not the purchase price.
