Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

We'll RIP $7500. It's spelled out specifically they are required. I'm still going to ask them about it next Wednesday and then I'll go all let me speak to your managERRR
You stated they have 12 months to collect it, they are worried about selling cars, why would they spend a single minute of brain power trying to collect information that can be collected when there ISNT a limited fed tax credit????? Tesla knows how to prioritize, thats how they make more EVs than VW+Ford+GM+Toyota+Honda+Kia+Hyundai combined. Dont question the process.

we're not talking to someone who understands time value of money.

Not saying you shouldn't so raise your concern, but you are likely to encounter "there's nothing I can do" and being asked to either accept delivery and move on, or decline delivery and leave without the car.

As the thread shows, your car will show up in inventory for someone else who will swoop it up in no time.

That's one thing I really dislike about Tesla. Their employees are not empowered to do much of anything, so you get plenty who just can't help you.

I hope I'm wrong and the manager indeed finds some process to help with this next Wednesday.
Ya I already got it that they have no autonomy and there is no discussion. I tried to get them to match driveway.com concerning my trade-in, and they were like we don't match, you either accept or reject.

FWIW, here is my experience. Ordered my M3P on 1/14, received delivery date notification of 1/27-2/7 on 1/16. Summited loan app with Tower on 1/18, and received approval on 1/21 for [email protected]. Was originally going to pay cash but decided to float the money in a CD as the financing rate was quite favorable.
Applied for Tower membership on 1/24. Deliver date change to 2/7-2/21 on 1/26. Started getting a little worried about taking delivery before end of February so began hitting the stock inventory on a daily basis to see if anything popped up. Ultimately found a MYL in stock on 1/29 and made the change not knowing the status of the M3P.
Set delivery date on MYL for 2/3 and started getting nervous on Tower coming through on the financing (really wanted to secured that rate). Did a ton of leg work today to get the Tower membership account finalized with them, and then following up multiple times with the loan processor to schedule the loan funding. If I had not done that then it probably would have been another month before the loan was finalized based upon my conversations with Tower and the amount of backlog that they have.
So, excited to take delivery on Friday and looks like everything is in order. Before I even jumped in I took my neighbors M3 out for the day and fell in love.

Except those that can really afford it do not take out a loan. Reading some of the posts here leads me to believe there are quite a few who are stretched thin and buying an expensive car, ev or gas burner.. I read people here living in apartments and buying. I'm at that semi retired age where expensive cars hold little interest to me. The feel of not carrying debt is pretty awesome. Now boats are a different story and a whole lot more fun. Ha.
You're semi retired and your thing is to mindlessly argue with people on the internet?

What a waste of life

hence me saying powerwall, i dont know why anyone wouldnt have a power wall with solar, its so cheap, and tesla worked something out where it sells back for a lot actually.. pretty sure theres even ecoflow for like $4000 that have some type of rebate and are pretty much plug and play.
I don't have Pw, it's a redic cost for the limited capacity. Ford Lightning is ~10 Pw equivalent & can drive. Of course CPUC just NEM'd me out of a few hundred in latest true up, that's new. Prior year got paid a few hundred for over generation (MCE). This state just loves taxing us to death, in every conceivable way. Nice weather tho, lol

Long time lurker. I was able to apply through Tower, thank you guys for all the advice.
Just curious, after approval, they said they would send a check to the address on the PO.
I would obviously need Tesla to receive the check before my day of pick up right? Will the rep at Tesla have a way to check that?

Thanks

Thanks for sharing. I just received my loan pre approval and uploaded all the documentation they requested including how to make payment to Tesla. My membership is still in processing "referred". Would you explain how you reached your loan processor or any tips to move this process along without pissing them off? I'm scheduled to pick-up my MYLR next Wednesday

Solar in CA took a nosedive with the PUC reducing the payback for excess power sold to the power grid operator. They cut it back 75% and want people to spend $20,000 for battery storage. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/12/15/c...wners.html
Doesn't take effect until mid-April. Those who sign a solar contract and get their paperwork in by then are grandfathered into the current buyback rates for 20 years. Just signed a solar contract today. Companies are swamped now. Will get a battery down the road, no EV yet and I'm counting on lower prices and govt incentives.
