Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

So I got a vin and updated delivery day estimate.

Do I have to finish submitting my insurance info and making final payment for the app to provide exact date or slots for me to take delivery? Or it will update me on the date/location later regardless if I finish those two steps and I will be fine so long as I finish those prior to taking the delivery?

Regarding the BMW M3 vs. Tesla Model 3 Performance debate(?), as I point of reference, I've owned the following:

2012 BMW E92 M3 (picked up new in Munich)
2016 BMW F80 M3 (picked up new in Munich)
2020 Tesla Model 3 Performance
2023 Tesla Model 3 Performance

The BMWs went to a few track events. On the street, the Teslas feel faster, more fun. The Tesla is overall a better car in every way. I do miss the E92 M3, because it was a great handling car and I loved to rev it to 7K+. But I wouldn't want it to my daily driver vs. my current Tesla.

Basically, I see like a lot of people talking out of their butts that have never owned either car. As I owned two of each, AMA.
I hope your right brother. I am with you with my share of fast fun cars, hoping the M3P is as fun to drive as people have mentioned. The BMW M3 Non aspirated models where amazing cars.

Referred means they have not looked at the membership application.
For me the Loan application approved first. Loan can not be funded without Membership. I had to upload some Docs and notarized POA. The membership took the longest from 18th to 31st. That is 9 business days it took them to even look at my membership request. My delivery is little over 2 weeks out hoping they can fund it in that time but no response from Loan people yet.
Thank you for the reply, appreciate it.

I haven't had to upload anything except for the DL back and front when submitting the application. do you get an email from them to upload additional docs ?

For me i am just going thru tesla loan for now and then refinance after with tower. My delivery is ~ 2/18 - 3/25 so if tower approves before that then i will do it straight through them but i read multiple people say they taking over a month to do anything since they got an influx of applications

Not true. Only need to file an interconnection application by Apr 13 to be grandfathered in. Have three years after application to install a system and begin operation. I interviewed and received quotes from four companies, none are gouging.
Anyone thinking of doing this in San Diego County pm me for a very knowledgeable and non-pushy system designer who works for Baker, one of the most reputable solar installers in the area (in business since 1938).https://www.solar.com/learn/nem-3.../#timeline [solar.com]
Reddit disagrees as people are getting quotes that are higher. Add in homeowners insurance premium goes up after a solar install.

they are not little slow, they are extremely slow! I would say count 3~4 weeks, not days.
Was able to get loan approval and membership account setup in under 10 days with a lot of extra leg work (many phone calls/emails, sweet talking the CSR, etc.). All the people I spoke with were really helpful and went out of their way to expedite my loan funding.

They send a message through the loan status portal page and you can submit all docs there.
They required a notarized Power of Attorney for the auto loan.

So if you take delivery after march the you don't qualify for $7500 tax credit?
No one knows. That's the current understanding but until the government makes it official…it's a guess.

And, you'll still qualify for the $3750 credit.

Has anyone had any recent experience with Tower CU funding timing ?
My loan application was approved first, then yesterday the membership was approved.
Hoping they can fund my loan to Tesla by the 17th at the latest but wanted to hear from others on what the funding time is once membership is approved? Do I need to hound them daily or its a quick process from here on out?

I called in and mentioned that I was ready to take delivery and needed the loan funded in three days. The CSR expedited my request to the loan officer and he actually called me back at 8:00 p.m. to finalize everything. He certainly didn't need to do that as he was off the clock and my app was probably at the bottom of the pile, but he went the extra mile. Great experience so far.

Have you driven a standard Model 3, yet? Since you're in touch with the driving dynamics of high performance cars, the biggest change/improvement will center around two areas:
1. The difference in weight distribution due to the batteries being very low. You may never realize just how much the 1000lbs+ of engine/transmission sitting relatively high up does to cornering feel.
2. The 'direct' feeling of Teslas for acceleration. Mash foot, go fast. Even the most modern of cars introduce a perceptible delay from the accelerator through the ICE, through the transmission to the wheels. There's just so much 'stuff' in the way, and when it all disappears in a EV, it's hard to go back.

The rest is more subjective. I like the minimalist interior and the frequent software updates. I don't miss the exhaust noise, it just feels obnoxious at this point. Considering my electricity plan is free on the weekends and I have 10K free Supercharging miles, my fuel cost is literally $0.00. That makes it more fun to just go take it out for 'no reason' other than to have fun/explore.

I'll keep that in mind as we get closer. I got app in at Tower and GCCU, first one to finalize gets my business. Both are very slow.

If say for example I pay $0 in tax next year, does that mean I get none of the $7500 tax credit?
