Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

See treasurydirect.gov
Until it resets every six months...at which time it can go up or down. The fixed rate is less than half a percent. Which means if inflation is tamed, you could be getting less than 1%, like back in 2016!

And you can't sell in first 12 months.

And give up three months interest if you sell within 5 years of purchase.

OTOH, your principal is guaranteed, no state tax and taxes are deferred until you sell.

But it's very possible that the interest payment could be lower than your auto loan interest. Especially after taxes.

Please educate yourself (ie. spend an hour or two and read about these investments, and bond market in general) before investing.

Prepare for another influx of orders given that the IRS retroactively made all Model Ys have a $80k limit.

If this is true, then the model y performance will be the one to choose after 7500...

Yes. I didn't pick performance (or towing) originally and I'm too far in to change now since my delivery is next week.

Model Y is not considered SUV until you add the third row, this is b/c it adds weight to it.

Not exceed a manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) of
$80,000 for vans, sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks
$55,000 for other vehicles
As of today and retroactively to 1/1, all Ys are considered SUVs, even with only two rows.

Booked online appt. for in person Branch visit
Went to branch in a couple of days and was out in under 40 minutes with approval
Loan officer had stack of Tesla loan applications from word of mouth referrals

They have same day approval so be mindful when you apply (valid for 30 days), then have to reapply which dings credit a bit

For those that are not in NJ, their website allows you to apply online but not sure of the process as I applied in a local Branch

Good Luck
Looks like a decent rate and good service. Same day approval in some cases, is nice. I think those rates are with auto pay from checking service with them, if I read that correctly.
Good info. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing, this helps if someone wants the performance or have additional add-ons
Did seem weird that previously 7 seater qualified and 5 seater did not

I expect to see more buyers jumping on existing inventory that is above $55K in fear of not loosing out on the Federal incentive

Side effect of this will be on Delivery dates for those who had ordered within a week of price drop, will now get the Vin but their delivery dates will possibly extend

Tesla wins, again.

They got a huge influx of orders and interest in their cars. Now they can bump the prices up, people still get the $7500. No one mad. Except those few people that got cars delivered Jan 1-10th.

Yeah. I expect all long range & performance inventory to dry up by Monday. I know I would have ordered towing & performance if I wasn't against the limit when I ordered.

Correct auto pay through their checking account
I think most FCU's have that requirement

If I understand correclty, anyone who ordered after Jan1 will get 7500 if you quality, so everyone wins....

But those people paid the higher price, i.e. pre-price cuts. Yes, they still get the 7500 but those drops were pretty big.

Wait so let me get this straight. if I order a Model Y Performance with black paint and white interior... the total approximate is $61k... this still qualifies for the $7500 federal credit???
