Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

I guess IRS bowed to GM where they classified Cadillac as car instead of SUV. Tesla Model Y is reclassified as SUV thus $80,000 cap
Tesla however are still not doing credits right. They do not take key information for all their buyers at the time of purchase which are required by IRS thus potentially negating any credit eligibility.

As of Feb 3, IRS the Treasury Department just fixed the EV tax credit's Tesla Model Y problem and the cap is $80k for ALL models now, no need to add the $4000 option to add 3rd row seats!
Thanks for the info. That's why all the expensive in stock models are gone all a sudden. People are fast......

Upgraded from MYLR to MYP Smilie))
Got the VIN within 10 minutes

My TowerFCU loan has not finished processing yet, the only date for me to choose delivery is 2/6 which I have done...
Do they just leave it locked in the garage until they receive payment from the Tower? Or will they just not deliver the car until they receive payment from Tower?

you can just take their financing and then refinance with tower. If you dont get the money on time, they will just give your vin to somebody else

The sale qualifies only if:

You buy the vehicle new
The seller reports required information to you at the time of sale and to the IRS.
Sellers are required to report your name and taxpayer identification number to the IRS for you to be eligible to claim the credit.

No BS, pure paperwork. Check with Tesla, they dont collect any of this information nor do they report. They may have done it for years, paperwork changed starting this year.

Here's the Dealer/Manufacturer requirement:

GM had Cadillac Lyriq started coming out which started all this reclassification as different government websites were not in line with IRS classification.

GM began production of the Lyriq in March 2022.

And through the end of 2022 managed to build a whole.... 122 of them. For the whole year.

The only EV GM sells in anything but embarrassingly tiny numbers is the bolt, and even then it sold less than 40k of them for the entire year, which is about how many EVs Tesla sold every 10 days.

The new law requires the POS (Dealer or manufacturer) to report a bunch of information on the buyer to the IRS.
Such as:
  • Seller/Dealer name and taxpayer ID number
  • Buyer's name and taxpayer ID number
  • Maximum credit allowable under IRC 30D for new vehicles or IRC 25E for previously owned vehicles
  • Vehicle identification number (VIN), unless the vehicle is not assigned one
  • Battery capacity
  • Date of sale
  • Sale price
  • For new vehicles, verification that the buyer is the original user
https://www.irs.gov/credits-deduc...quirements

They have until next year to report it so expect follow-up from Tesla to be eligible (I can't remember if I provided my social when I bought mine years back)...

Regarding federal tax credit of $7500.
Do we need to withhold minimum tax amount owe to irs $7500 by Dec? Example...If salary is 100k and taxes is 15k, if I already paid 10k taxes via payroll then I can only get 5k credit?

IRS 1040 Line 18, if that is >$7500 you get your money.

How to check if VIN is assigned or not?
It is under the RN number in the tesla app. I ordered 01/17 and no vin yet basic White/black basic rims ATL; so i think yours will be pushed even further ... if the demand continues

I want Lyriq to drop below 45k .GM of all the company should be ashamed to do this, after bailing out those Suckers, they turn around and embarrass us.I don't think they want to increase EV Volumes other side of the business way more profitable at the moment

guessing the news is spreading fast, the inventory depleted in short time. I saw a lot of MYLR or MYP in Chicago area one hour ago, now it's all 269 range ones.....
