Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

I just read up on it .. yea that's nice sucks that he jacked up the price.

I'm eyeing a Model 3 RWD now.. not sure how good it's going to be in NJ with the winters.

but under 30k after all incentives is tempting.

OD 1/17 MYLR with 20in wheel, other options are default. EDD Feb 3/mar 3. VIN get assigned Thur (Feb 2) morning, Tesla picks a delivery date of Feb 6, then asked me to pickup Feb 3 AM. I took it today Feb 4.. I believe my 20wheel makes the delivery date a bit early (I hope late Feb), beside, my pickup is directly at Fremont.

Long story short: gas vehicles are still a long ways from dead. The other manufacturers have a lot of capacity yet to trigger. EVs are and continue to be a long ways from the status quo and like Apple or Microsoft cannot sustain a global market with their products alone, neither will Tesla. Subaru for instance has seen explosive growth in this country especially but its still a minnow globally. Similarly you go to Colorado or Oregon and see them hugely represented on the road giving the idea they truly dominate the market when we know that's not true in many other corners of this country, let alone the world.

Numbers sold globally don't mean much either when as you said, others don't (yet) even sell certain vehicles. There are still a lot of places in this country alone where seeing a Tesla is like a unicorn compared to other vehicles. Same across the pond (i travel a lot back and forth). Tesla market share has risen drastically largely due to being the only big game in town. That will change, like it has with almost any tech "commodity". And as long as EVs still have perceived limitations other products do not, that opinion will only change if there is a larger market adoption. The traditionals know that they need to persuade not the ones who were already open to buying an EV. Brand loyalty - even if to a fault is also still a big factor. Tesla by itself will not, and cannot change that. Like many companies in the tech industry learned, whether an IBM, Blackberry or Apple for instance - you may shake up the market - but competition will eventually come for your share and then some. It might not even come from the corners we're thinking right now.
As you mentioned earlier,
I just wanna know where you see this crazy ratio of 'way more' Mach E & Bolt to Tesla. Where is this place?

Is there still a March concern to receive the 7500 tax incentive?

How will it be under 30k? Can you walk us through the incentives?

Maybe meant under 32k after all possible incentives?

Sorry I also factored in the gas savings that the Tesla site throws in there.

43-44k model 3
-7500 fed
-4000 state
No sales tax

Looking at 33-34k otd. Then I guess you can factor in the gas savings over however long you want to keep the vehicle.

Fit & finish, reliability are lackluster. Self driving? Ha! Trust it at your own peril. This car is worth $36,999, at best! Stop paying the Elon tax. Lots of new ev that are better fit and finish.
Can you elaborate on how you reached the 36,999 number? You could very well be right, but would love to hear your calculation and assumptions.

Nice. Did you just edit the original order through the app/site, or create a new order? I did mine through the website with confirmation. Color of my MY has changed on the app to reflect the edits, but still shows same exact date range.
I edited the original order reservation on the website, changed it from the Long Range with rim upgrade to the Performance. The "build details" immediately showed the new car, and the estimated delivery date also immediately changed. I made the change about 2 hours before the price increase. I still don't have a VIN. But I'm not touching it anymore, because I'm thinking if I changed anything now it would be at the new higher price. I basically got the Performance at the same price that the Long Range with rim upgrade would cost now. I also just ordered the Tesla Wall Charger, so I could get that install going in time for the new arrival. To bad they don't include the mobile charger anymore, I'd also like to get that to throw in the trunk for emergency recharging.
