Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

YUP!! I know. I really jacked this up. I already have a sports car. I don't need another rough ride. But that's exactly what I did. And now i'm hearing the price went
up $2000. Checking my paperwork on the MYP, it shows $56,990.
at least this guy doesn't think its too bad. granted he is coming from 21 to 23 with comfort suspension.

https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/t...st-7396052

that said, its another story going from 21 to 19 with regards to comfort. if all you're concerned about is ride quality and don't care about less range, give it a try and you can always swap out the tire/rims to 20 or even 19 and sell the 21s.

oh and here's some perspective on p vs lr orders.

Any idea why Tesla isn't offering the 7500 tax credit on lease deals?

So is Fremont built somehow better then Austin ? Austin one doesn't get matrix light?

To get this right all of the MY with white interior are Fremont built ?
If you consider Matrix lights Yes, Fremont builds have an advantage.
Yes, white = Fremont

Gotcha thanks much.. do we need a NJ license to get the sales tax waived? I just moved to Nj but haven't got the license yet. I think I need to book an appointment asap
You can get your NJ license same day by visiting any nearby dmv.
There are some eligible criteria like you need to be continue NJ resident for another 2 or 3 years. Checkout ChargeUpNJ website.https://chargeup.njcleanenergy.co...guidelines

As long as you are NJ resident and registration on your name, I think you should be fine.

Save $2k from MSRP and no tax 😂 makes this even slicker.
Plus $250 specific charger rebate & upto $1000/1500 on installation.

Wanted to pre order Model Y white with white interior, but looks like it's no longer qualifies for NJ 2k tax rebates since is over 55k. Any idea if there is way around this limitation.

You seem to know more about this than some Tesla people. If I changed my order back to my original order of MYLR from existing MYP order, would I go all the way back to the end of the line? My original order was Jan 16. I really screwed this up!
Sorry, I don't know the logistics regarding going from one order to another.

Did anyone else never get a text message from a "tesla advisor" after placing a reservation?

I got a text a few weeks after I placed a reservation for my Model 3 last year, but I placed an order for a Model Y on 1/13. EDD of 2/5-2/14 (initially said 1/31 - 2/14 and the former date has just been pushed back a day every time that day is over). But I've never gotten any text messages since I placed the reservation.

Thanks for that info. I did check them out. I've checked out others too. From others I've read. There is a noticeable different between the 21" and 20"! So I know there's a difference between 21" and 19". I'm going to have to switch, swap or bale. But thanks for those links. I did check them out.

You can still keep MYP and just swap the wheels with MYLR ver?
Yes, but I'm paying $4000 for upgraded power, and not much else. Not worth it.

Anyone know if the suspension on the Performance is different or is it just "lowered"?
