Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

I know of five that were wrapped up in the last week for the loans. I, along with another few, were approved for membership last week. They are working through it, but folks have reported being told that there are only two employees who do this, so there is only so much they can get done in a day.

Thankfully, even though I'm fully approved, I set up alternative arrangements and will just refinance through Tower, so I do not need to be concerned between Tower taking days and Tesla only giving days when the time comes.
Took delivery of my MYLR last Friday. Loan was funded on time by Tower so no issues there, other than some persistence in advance of the delivery date. Really enjoy the car so far, but definitely not at the same trim standard as my X5 that I moved from. One thing that was odd was that the delivery rep indicated that I was not allowed to inspect the interior of the vehicle prior to delivery, but that I had 24 hours to reject the vehicle if not satisfied.

I have a Mid-range 3 and the MYLR on order, the new MYLR will be for the wife who really does NOT need long range, but we'll use it when we travel, so it's worth it in that case.
I thiink the Long Range vs Standard Range is 100% worth the small cost difference.
*I'm unsure if I would prefer the Performance, the speed boost and fun factor is nice, but you lose range, and wear out the more expensive tires quicker. I'd consider if it was a nearby inventory model, but prefer just getting mine as planned.

That being noted, if you are at all interested in the Standard range, I see them going by in inventory all the time. Sometimes with bigger tires, but Standard Range White with Black interior is pretty easy to find, if you want to 'downgrade'. That way you skip the wait and worry, and even save a few bucks.

For example: there's one in Savannah at the moment:
https://www.tesla.com/inventory/n...&range=200

Also two in Florida and one. in Tennessee

Now I wish I had ordered the tow hitch. I don't ever tow anything, but would be nice for things like bicycle racks and such. Looks like you can order it later for $1,300. But only $1,000 if you build it with one. And probably cleaner installation if it is part of the factory build.

I have the P with no VIN at the lower price.

Has anyone modified there order to add the Tow Hitch? How did that effect price and delivery date?
From what I've read and thought about, and mind you I'm not expert, if you plan to use a hitch for non-trailer items (bike rack, luggage rack, etc) then you can do an aftermarket hitch pretty easily. There are even videos that show how to do it yourself. It won't include all of the software side of things, but not sure you really need it for those functions.

I want a hitch, the wife doesn't. So for us, if we ever decide down the road we need it, we'll buy it from Tesla. Rather pay an extra $300 down the line on a 'possibly' than waste $1000 now on that same 'probably not.'

If you plan that you will trailer things later, motorcycles, small boats, (big boats?), etc then it's better to get it now. (Unless it kills your edd)

Sorry should have added that i got the MYLR

The one you linked is for the standard range I would rather wait for the LR model which i ordered. 330 miles compared to 269Mi is a big diff for me

Also for me i didn't want to upgrade from MYLR to MYP because of everything you mentioned. also the LY model comes with an additional software you get can unlocked for 2K i believe and it will take your 0-60 from 4.3 seconds to 3.9 seconds. dont really care for speed that much but its just an software update needed which is pretty cool

Who wants to carry around keyfob after driving a Tesla?
I went to a sporting event a couple of weeks ago, and went through the normal metal detectors. After placing my wallet/phone in a tray, guard presses me for my keys.

"I don't have any keys". He keeps pressing me to check my pockets. "Sir, I drive a Tesla, they don't use keys". He's still somewhat confused... "OK Mr. Tesla come on through".

Thanks. I think I'll pass. Quick Google search shows a few options for bikes that don't need a hitch at all. Can get the Tesla roof racks for $500 (which I wanted to do anyway later), and get a bike rack that mounts on the roof rack. Or even soft external mount for the trunk. Since the roof is all glass, they even have one that is a suction cup roof rack. So a bunch of options available that don't require hitch.

I guess if you actually plan to pull stuff and need the trailer hitch and connection for turn signals and brake light, then would need the hitch.

Yeah, figured you were getting an MYLR. Was just noting that 'if you didn't want to wait' that other option was there. Sounds like we're in teh same boat, and both about the same date.

Not sure how the software option works, don't hear much about it, but not too worried about it, it's the bottom of the priority list.

That is good to hear hopefully they get to mine in next 7 business days. How long do we need to give if we don't hear for them to do the Tesla financing route as back up? (I.E what is turnaround once you apply with Tesla Financing, how many days?)

You sure the rep said reject? My rep said I have 24 hours to log any issues for them to look at during a service appointment. Didn't say I could reject. I didn't have any significant issues though.
