Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

That is good to hear hopefully they get to mine in next 7 business days. How long do we need to give if we don't hear for them to do the Tesla financing route as back up? (I.E what is turnaround once you apply with Tesla Financing, how many days?)
I'm thinking to go with Tesla Financing. This is what it says in the FAQ on the website:

How long do credit decisions take? How can I check the status of my application?
Many credit decisions are available within a few minutes, with most available within 48 hours. However, some may occasionally take longer due to unforeseen circumstances.

There are no prepayment penalties associated with Tesla Financing. You may make a payment towards the outstanding principal at any time. Any amounts paid in excess of your current amount due will be applied to the principal balance

Yeah, figured you were getting an MYLR. Was just noting that 'if you didn't want to wait' that other option was there. Sounds like we're in teh same boat, and both about the same date.

Not sure how the software option works, don't hear much about it, but not too worried about it, it's the bottom of the priority list.

Not my priority either in terms of upgrading with the 0-60 but just something to note. that you can almost get the same 0-60 that you can get w/ performance model to MYLR.

Anyone who took delivery: how to you pay taxes and fees that are not included in order agreement? Can I pay with my credit card? Do I pay at the time of delivery?

if you are in the MA West your rates are different. if you in MA EAST and getting that rate, you must have locked in a very good supplier rate. The delivery rate (16 cents) is same for everyone in MA east. Talking about rates is missing the point though.

The Key point, It does NOT make sense for everyone to switch to EV with given today's Electricity prices. Each should do their own calculations using their own numbers rather than the national averages that get thrown around and decide for themselves.

I'll help. Tower FCU and Tesla are both awfully run companies. Enjoy a crappy financial institution and an overpriced iphone car.

Its just someone commenting about how Tower is super backlogged on processing membership and auto loan applications.

It was in existing (new) inventory, if you go to tesla.com, choose menu -> Existing inventory, that's where demo models will be. But I checked just a few minutes later and it had disappeared already. So someone was on their toes.

Are all the current inventory Model Y's the ones people cancelled/abandoned so they can get the rebate? Nothing shy of 55.9k. Anyways, thanks OP hoping for the delivery to beat March
Thought I would update everyone interested in my experience.

01/18/2023

Placed order "late" after wife was able to test drive and compare Model 3 and Model Y.

- MYLR White w/ 20inch wheels

01/21/2023

Estimated Delivery Date of last week of March. At this point I was looking at the MYP vs the LR as there was uncertainty if I would even qualify for FED credit at this point.

01/27/2023

Make decision to change order to MYP and start looking at inventory builds. Later that day I find one after trying to transfer reservation to another one with phone customer support. Online chat support was useless and wanted me to create a new order, possibly to get whatever commission is available.

VIN immediately assigned to my account as soon as I hang up phone call. Then Tesla app starts to ask for all tasks leading up to final payment.

Late in the evening, I am alerted to schedule delivery between 01/29/2023 - 02/01/2023

I start loan apps to find best rate. Local CU won at 4.5 APR.

01/28/2023

Tesla emails stating that I need to schedule my delivery date by end of day or my order will be canceled.

Scheduled last possible date to make sure financing is taken care of.

01/29/2023

Tesla emails asking for proof of funding but lackluster communication starts with Tesla team. Phone number that initiated text message for my order was a ghost town. Email communication was a ghost town... customer phone support was slammed so couldn't connect with anyone.

I was seeking clarification on what they needed from me. Ended day without answer.

01/30/2023

Local dealer reaches out to me to answer questions and dot the i's and cross those t's. Send proof of funding via email as requested and I am cleared to pick up that day if I wanted to.

Picked up vehicle that day.

The whole process was easy enough but the lack of communication when they themselves deemed it urgent was crummy. Added stress to something that didn't need too. To be fair, it does seem like they were slammed with the surge of recent purchases. Sales Associated that checked me in for my pickup did mentioned that they were doing 60+ deliveries a day from 12 ish early January.

The overview of the car was rushed due to the long line waiting to pick up and some of the associates seemed beat. I mention this because some associates were rude to me and other customers. Luckily I didn't spend too much time with them.

Wife and I were looking into a MYP last year but held off. So lucky we did and even luckier that we went with the Performance before IRS allowed that model for the credit.

Good luck to you all that are still waiting to get delivery.
