Been wanting to get into engraving, are these any good for a starter machine?

Seems well reviewed... For 60 bucks I think it's a no brainer.

Should even be able to crank out enough random things to charge 5-10 bucks for and recoup costs easily enough too.

I am getting it for my kid's science fair two months away. So we can take it onsite and work on some small projects.

Just a heads up, especially with kids, you will need to get this thing in an enclosure to protect everyone from the laser's light. Odds of having enough safety glasses, and everyone wearing them properly around the laser are about zero with kids.

I watched this review and I'm sold for my needs: https://youtu.be/tW2QAGKf5VI

FYI: Shipping is 25-25 days. Probably why the same model on Amazon is $200.

I just watched a review and this one comes with a cover for the laser meant to protect your eyes. It looks legit...

I think this TT may be older model of the TTS shown in the video you posted. Perhaps the S is for shield? The packing list for TT-25 per this video doesn't show the red laser shield but glasses instead https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=o91i97rvLUY

Engraving Legos actually sounds like a cool idea. Conundrum.

The shield around the laser on the review video is red/amber. If I have acrylic stock and make a shield, what film would I need to apply to protect against the laser?

Don't screw around with this. I'm all for DIY and try to DIY everything, but an instantaneous direct flash from a 2.5w laser and you're blind in that eye.

Laser pointers are under 5mW because that is about the threshold where the eye's blink response is fast enough to prevent damage. 2.5w is literally 500x the power of a 5mW laser pointer.

It doesn't sound like much but 2.5w will instantly destroy any part of your retina it hits.

What shield do you recommend for this?
