Google is offering Google Stadia Users: Stadia Controller Update to Unlock Bluetooth Mode in Stadia Controllers for Free.

  • Note, click "Switch to Bluetooth Mode" to begin the Update
About this Update:
  • Switching to Bluetooth mode downloads a software update
  • System requirements: Chrome 108 or newer
  • Once you switch your controller to Bluetooth mode, you can't change it back to use Wi-Fi on Stadia. You can still play wired with USB in Bluetooth mode.
  • You can switch to Bluetooth mode, check the controller mode, and check for Bluetooth updates until Dec 31, 2023.
F.A.Qs:
  • How do I pair my controller using Bluetooth?
    • After switching your controller into Bluetooth mode, press and hold the "Y + Stadia" buttons for 2 seconds to enter pairing mode. The status light will flash orange.
    • Then, go to the device you want to play on and pair your controller in the settings. Once paired and connected, the status light on the controller will turn solid white.

RIP. Stadia was a great platform that got a lot of us who don't own or want an expensive console back into gaming. And although it looks basic, the controller is somehow the most comfortable controller I've ever used, so I'm very happy I can now use it with my Steam Deck.

Sucks that Stadia didn't last, but those of us who used it got to do a ton of gaming for free, and ended up with free BT controller, chromecast ultra, and several games that the publishers decided to gift Stadia owners the local-PC version for so we could continue our progress. Hard to complain, wish more companies took care of their customers this well.

Rip Stadia. I logged 500 hours of cyberpunk and 150 hours of rdr2 on it and never had any issue. A great service indeed, and now I got free games, free controller, and a Chromecast ultimate to keep, thank you for all the fun, I will remember you.

Looks like 8bitdo doesn't support BLE based on this:
​Note: Xbox Bluetooth controllers on the latest firmware released in Sep, 2021 are NOT supported any longer, due to their bluetooth change from Classic to BLE.

As far as I know, Google refunded all hardware purchases made directly from them.

This is so that they can be used as a wireless controller, giving another reason to keep using them instead of contributing to e-waste.

I got a 4K Chromecast and a BT PC controller for free.
