There are two basic categories: legacy and ascent series.

Legacy Vitamix machines don't have any tech stuff like Bluetooth, timers and so on. They produce same output of ascent series

Under legacy, most powerful and popular is 750 pro. It has preset settings for smoothies, soup etc

7500 is same as 750 pro, but without preset settings.

500, 5000 series and rest are placed below 7500.

The tech updated version of 750 pro is a3500 (ascent series). It has a timer and many functions can be run by a smart phone. Also more containers are available with various capacities and functions.

Legacy series has limited container options, but enough for most use cases.

Again, a2300, 2500 are are downgraded a3500 in some aspect.

Some people feel ascent series is unproven tech and 7
Legacy series does the job and has been for decades

So decide accordingly.

Ascent series has an lcd screen and touch buttons, phone app, Bluetooth and rf id based container detection.

So people generally associate this with more chances of failure in comparison to a simple switch and hardware button on legacy series which has been proven to work for decades without an issue.

Also both 750 and a3500 produce same results consistently

Ascent series has been out for only about roughly 3 years(ballpark)

Wow that's a damn good deal. I got the A3300 on BF for $350 and I think this one is even better than that.

Why would someone call a series is unproven tech? Do they not produce the same smoothie results tho?

I need one for whisking eggs and egg whites and protein shakes. I'm reading good reviews on Vitamix. Should I bite it?

I have a 750 and agree with every single point in your anaylsis. Yes, there is a newer/better/app based blender, but who cares? Much prefer buttons/knobs/switches over a touchscreen myself. at the end of the day, they all blend amazingly. This is a great deal, and I cant imagine basically anyone that has one wishing they had a touchscreen on their blender or a BT app.

How useful is the tech stuff?

I've never had a blender where I could walk away from due to adding ingredients, shaking, stirring, tasting etc. so what types of things can one due with remote operation, etc?

One major plus about the Ascent Series is, it is compatiable with and has more containers, especially small 1 oz cups which are good for small batches like making Salsa, Guac and anything for just one quick use and it's very important for some people and Legacy series lacks these small/smallest containers in the Vitamix system.

I got the A3300 for $350 from Amazon holiday deal. I love it but do miss the presets more than I thought I would. Most of the time I'm running Smoothie or Cleaning program from the phone app.

Just to add the A series comes with a 10 year warranty versus 7 in the legacy line

It is slightly overkill, but you might find the other features worthwhile. Our first vitamix l
lasted over 10 years before it needed minor repairs, but I decided to upgrade. I wanted the extra container and reduced volume of the newer units.

This price is a good deal on the model I would likely buy today. I am accustom to manual and don't see a need for presets. I have old containers which I like to use at various times.

Whisking Eggs...

Never tried whisking eggs in a blender. I would normally use a mixer, second option would be by hand. I know it would be possible, but it would not be my first or second choiceSmilie
