damn still 30 bucks after coupon
you can feed more people if you cook your own rice at home. There's two strategies to stretch the family meal. Make your own rice at home then use the two side dishes to get two chow mein. The other strategy is to make rice at home, then order 2x super greens( cabbage broccoli and kale stir fried in a light garlic sauce) as your sides. Then since you have two veggie dishes go meat heavy on the entrees and ignore the meat/veggie combo dishes. Also avoid the honey walnut shrump because it only includes a certain amount of shrimp before closing the box while getting orange chicken will insure that they pack the box until it's full to the top.
Mostly on par with the unofficial chain "family" Chinese restaurants, which are mostly Cantonese style serving the same dishes, but with tons more sugar and salt than you'd find in China. Some dishes are better at Panda, such as the teriyaki chicken (without sauce IMO), and orange chicken, other dishes are worse such as chow mien.

If you're after something authentic, then this is not it, this is definitely American food, influenced by Chinese dishes, similar to American Italian food, or any other American immigrant style food. Those "family" Chinese restaurants are also rarely authentic too, since they have to cater mostly to customers who do not come from mainland China.

Plus, authentic Chinese food may not be what you actually want anyway. I've accumulated about a years time in China, the food would take getting used to, and would be unlikely to do well outside of a China town in the US, especially with the amount of bones and cartilage you will find in many of the meat/fish dishes. Which is exactly why we have the Chinese-American food we have today.

If you accept Panda Express for what it is, i.e. it's not authentic mainland Chinese food, I think it's great food, that is pretty healthy if you order correctly, and with this coupon pretty affordable for fast food.

Leaving this here in case it's helpful to folks trying to figure out how much food this is.

TL;DR: Family meal ~= 4x Bigger Plate.

If you take a look at online order system, you can identify that a small entree is 1/2 a medium and 1/4 a large.
combo entrees calorie count is same as small entree calorie count (check in a la carte menu). A combo side is a medium side.

This is approximate since they don't weigh things, just scoop things. but:
Bigger Plate = 1med side, 3 small entree
Family meal = 4 med side, 12 small entree worth of food.

Also, don't let people gate keep you from a reasonably priced meal just because they feel it's not "authentic". Try it sometime, decide yourself if you like it.

EDIT: by me, 4 bigger plate is 46.40 and family meal is 35.00 before taxes.

This is on paper, how do the staff at the restaurant handle this. The more food they dish out. The more cooks have to work. The food is not weighed when given to customers.
It's technically volume based, but you're not going to overcome a 2x deficit with an overly generous host when getting a plate, so it's completely infeasible to get better value ordering three two item plates vs a family meal, even without this $8 discount. There's just no way to fit that much food in the plate containers.

Deal is $27+7.25% tax for me after the coupon.

I just ordered this meal on 1/3 and it was $32. It's now $34.95. They definitely raised the price ahead of this promotion.
Yes, I noticed too. Around new year about 6~8% price increase.

Totally concur. I lived in China for four years, and food you get in mainland China would not be accepted by the masses here. No one likes spitting out bone shards on the table, and meat-filled buns (like char siu bao) with 80/20 fat/meat ratio inside is not going to go down well here.
Even the food from San Francisco or NYC in Chinatowns is not going to be the same as what you would find in China. Chinese-American restaurants have largely succeeded because they have adapted to the American palate. It's actually common for most ethnic restaurants, because it's just smart for business. I'm probably one of the few patrons of Panda Express that has never tried the Orange Chicken, but it's what they are famous for. You won't see it in China, but it sells here. Chinese cuisine centers around not wasting anything, especially animal protein. Fat, tendons, marrow, organs, etc... all get eaten and used because of financial situations. We have the privilege of buying and using select animal parts.

They've become super stingy over the past few years. It was my go to place for orange chicken. Now it's 80% orange batter and 20% with chicken in it, either that or super tiny pieces. Rice portion is also reduced. It's funny how the employees were told to spread the rice out to make it look full.

Ouch...$27.00 after $8.00 coupon.....I will pass.
$27 is a very good deal. During early pandemic, it was $20 and that was a super deal. $7 more three years later, $7 increase is not bad.

Respect your decision.

FYI - Each store has different pricing, even in the same city, so check the other locations if you are in city with multiple locations.

I have a hard time understanding the folks complaining about this family meal being $30.
it's a steal in my book.. where can you feed 5-6 people for $30, these days aside from frozen food.
4 taco supremes at tacobell is over $10, and i'd argue panda is more filling.
While I only eat Panda 2 or 3 times a year, I like it for what it is. hehe

I think panda typically pays more than other food joints. At least that's what I have heard
I don't know about that but what other fast food restaurants have open kitchen and you can see them cooking the food

Agreed. My go to Panda Express place got super stingy and the people who work there weren't like that from the beginning. At first, I thought I came in at a wrong time, but I was super disappointed after my second trip. I'll never step foot in there again. There is no value now. Shrinkflation sucks…

out here, hardly feeds a family of 4 (2 adults + 2 kids). Depends on the diet people have.
