Good price but note that this printer does not print double sided automatically. A deal breaker for me.

I have used it for years with off brand toner without issue.

It also works with phones wirelessly but only with the Canon Business Print app.

Bought this exact model 8 years ago for $50 as a first year PhD student, still working well (with Linux). Double page printing is possible with Linux if you try hard enough 😉

My review from last weeks post:

This is the absolute best workhorse monochrome laser printer you can get. My office has seven that have been running for 5-10 years with no problems using Amazon 3rd party toner cartridges which seem to last for ever. Cannot go wrong with green cycle compatible toner at $10 each. Sometimes $8 if you really purchase in bulk. Yes it's on sale. It's regularly $150.00.

Wired and wireless both work well. We tried to replicate with similar footprint brother printers on sale on Black Friday and ended up throwing all the brothers out.

Amazon also has the 6230dw for $85.00 with auto duplexing. Same printer with another feature.

When you take into account the cost of running either of these printers with the reliable third party ink this should be a front page deal.

Bought this 3 months ago for $80. Great printer easy set up if you're going wireless. No need to install software. Let Windows detect it. No duplex printing.

Best printer I've ever had. Just replaced the ink cartridge last year with a cheap one off amazon. No problems prints every time & prints fast. Have an HP deskjet all in one that gets used for scanning only cause the damn ink issue when it goes unused for months. When you get older you tend not to need color ink. Monochrome is good for most everything.

I had this printer. It is completely functional but wireless setup is annoying. I have to find the wireless setup app on Canon website and connect the printer to my PC using the strange port cable for first time setup.

Amazing part is that Canon has Android app for printing from this printer on your phone. At least, Android is supported.

btw, got it on Amazon in 2020 at $59.99

It's very possible that these are actually the same or very similar printers. The form factor and even the way the toner loads is identical. HP manufactures the "print engine" and other companies put it in their branded shell.

I've had this from old Staples deal. While it printed it was ok. WIFI printing is nice.
But once it came to cartridges - Canon ones are very expensive, and generic ones didn't work, tried from Amazon 2 or 3 brands. So I just sold it for $5. New one is not Cannon, thanks.

Their toner save option is useless, comes out so light. You can go into the printer settings, grayscale settings, etc and increase how bold you want the text to come out.

Just use WPS. Took two seconds for me with that.

Connected via WPS, installed the drivers from their site, showed up in the list during installation, done.

Printer starts up and reconnects to wifi in all of 2 seconds, which was a really nice surprise compared to many other models.

What are some good cheap 3rd party brand toner cartridges for this? The "LD" brand on Amazon seems to be the cheapest, but not a lot of reviews
