Take cotton balls.
Squeeze as much petroleum jelly into each one.
Shove them in a spare pill bottle til it's full of Vaseline filled cotton balls.
Wrap a Bic lighter in plastic wrap and tape it a bit to keep it wrapped up.
Now put that pill bottle of cotton balls, and the Bic lighter in a zip loc bag.

The real slick deal.

Received mine today. Great idea, poor execution.

I would not trust the case to keep water out. It needs a thicker oring or a tighter clamp. I would also worry about the case breaking when in a bag with other gear.

Good for a drawer in the house.

But, this has inspired me to print my own

EDIT: I kept one of them slightly underwater for an hour or so. About 5 drops of water were on the inside. So, it's not 100% waterproof, but then again, hopefully you, or it, won't be under water for an hour plus. I was debating performing a crush test. I might do that after I print a new housing.

Agree.

One came broken. Good enough to leave one in the jeep and one in the ATV. Sparker will work wet or dry

Generally, those who have a bag will have other gear. This is somewhat of a larger version of the survival Altoids, except it will float for a while, and while not pelican box strength, will stand up to some abuse. It's size is a good size for a compass, a lighter, some water proof matches, some fish hooks and fishing line, a few tablets of aqua Mira. The clamp is indeed weak sauce, but a few rubber bands fix the problem. The only thing really missing is a decent blade.

Thanks OP; in 4 1. Looks like there might be enough extra room in those waterproof containers for a fresnel lens, a few stormproof matches and a striker. Maybe even a Bic Mini...
Bought one of these a while ago. In mine, I have the striker, tinder, a small box of coleman matches, and a small 2.5" blade pocket knife. It's tight, but it works.

The instructions state to expand the tinder by ripping it apart with your fingers but it's nice to have a knife to assist with that task.

My only complaint is the clasp is cheap and will surely break at some point. but it's a $5 dry box so you can't expect much.
