North Face does not limit their warranty this way, which tells me these are knock-offs that will be rejected by North Face for warranty claims.

The north face outlet store in Berkeley, CA (true outlet - returned items, display, extra inventory etc) used to cut the tags in half to void the warranty.

I could certainly believe that. But do the tags need to be sent in when making a warranty claim years down the road? If so, I wonder how many people keep the tags.
