Yes, these are cheap, but they're also 3-4 years old. Figure batteries may not be in top condition. And CPUs are several generations old; fine for standard business work but don't expect these to be the best for gaming or video creation/editing.

Likely these are off-lease business laptops. Not TC'ing, just know what you're getting into.

How on earth is an $800 Macbook a relevant alternative to a $300 refurbished Windows laptop?

I also don't understand the 'outdated' concept. An 8th gen i7 will do literally any task that 99.9999999% of computer users do today and for the next 5 years. And 32GB of RAM is a ridiculous amount for even a brand-new laptop. What are people doing with their computers that the above isn't enough? My only concern with this refurbished machine would be battery life.

That's some sound logic right there. True words of wisdom.

Instead of buying a 2 year old used car for $12k you should instead buy a $36k new car because it's better.

There are some decent deals here. I need a PC for general household work (browsing, web processing, movies) and got the frontpage Lenovo from Target for $270, still haven't opened it. Was waiting to see if a better deal would pop up. That 12th gen i3 has roughly twice the passmark score of these 8th gen i5s, but even refurbished, I think the build quality will be much better than the bargain basement Lenovo. Don't necessarily need the speed and it would probably be a hassle to open up the Lenovo to add RAM. Any recommendation?

how much did you see it went for?

5300 really doesn't have any 2.5in slot! AFAIK, there is no spinny m2 HDD.
I think it was around $479. It was for the 2-in-1. I wonder if the HD was a mistake. I really don't have the spare funds right now but I need a new laptop for Office. Debating just getting the cheapest one I can find right now that is, at least, 11 compatible. That other $150 deal with 6th gen is a little too crappy to be worth it.

Bought one to replace an Inspiron 15 (7559) I'd given to my wife. The Inspiron developed a huge, distracting light gap on the bottom left side of the screen. My wife insists that she doesn't really want or need a new device because all she really ever does on it is some studies (CPA, etc.).
We're both very happy with this purchase. It's much, much lighter, is quiet and It looks brand new, so I think I got very lucky. I opened it up and there was no dust to be found anywhere. Battery life is OK, she doesn't really use it without plugging it in any way so that's not an issue. I got it for 265 incl tax, etc. i7 8th series, 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD. I think the original was 400 something and I used the 40% off code which also got me free shipping, or maybe that just came as a perk, not sure. Anyway, Thanks!

Tell them your battery lasts less than 90min. That's their criteria.
My cutoff is if your battery is less than 50whr out of 60, then you should ask for another battery. They will send you another refurbished battery that would be better than 50. I've asked for three 7390 2in1 batteries because they were all below 50 out of 60 and got three replacement in the mid 50.

I have ordered two laptops from dellrefurbished over the the last two years, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that for both machines, new batteries had been installed with 0 recharge cycles and 100% capacity. But I bought "A" condition machines. So I think in some cases, the actual refurbishment also includes new batteries. I've also purchased a couple of the OptiPlex Micro form factor machines, which are great when looking for something small. For one of the machines, I checked the SSD when it came in and noticed that it had already accumulated a batch of bad sectors. So I called in, and a few days later, I had another one at my doorstep completely free of charge.

Yeah, in many cases, these are off lease business machines, and yeah, they might be several years old and not at the cutting edge of technology. But they are certainly powerful enought for most basic tasks, and if the get dropped on the floor or knocked around, it's much less of a stress vs. an $800 Apple machine.

One other thing to keep in mind is that the Latitude series is pretty much for business-class machines (whereas the Inspiron series is more consumer-oriented). So the Latitudes are generally built more robustly, and also have thing like built-in Ethernet ports that have been removed from consumer-class machines to save a few bucks. Yeah, a built-in Ethernet port might not be of interest to most people, but it is really helpful for certain operations like setting up a router... And wired Ethernet is still also way faster than most wireless systems for file transfers (to local machines).

Anyway, depending on your intended purpose (and the size of your wallet), these dellrefurbished machines can be pretty good deals.
excellent experience. i just got a Latitude refurbished last week Grade A, it looks new for pennies.

so how do i find out if the battery is new? you talked about 0 recharge cycles, is there something that will tell me how many recharge cycles?

thanks.

Edit, think i found the answer...

How can you tell if the battery is new from that? I can see the capacity as of the OS install date but I'm not sure what I'm looking at.There is no cycle count.

DESIGN CAPACITY 60,002 mWh
FULL CHARGE CAPACITY 56,453 mWh
CYCLE COUNT -

we just got one of these refurbished Dells this week (different model): Clean as a whistle. it looks brand new and we bought it in Condition A, as it was the same price as condition B. the battery seems like it is new too as well as the charger and cables.

eventually i may open it up to see what all is going on, i suspect new everything. the only thing old was the SSD that had 750 hours on it; that got me wondering, but an IT man told me they probably put various parts together to make the thing. better than expected is my feeling about this Dell laptop.

so i don't understand how some replies are dissatisfied while others are ecstatic over their purchase. that probably puts some off from taking a chance on these things.
The variance in replies are obviously an indication of their poor quality control.

Used this website and converted my battery code to a date... hopefully this is useful. Not sure if there is an easier way.

good question. i downloaded pure battery analytics and found my battery is at nearly 76%, so may contact dell.

an article that describes this: The 6 Best Tools to Analyze Laptop Battery Health
https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-t...tery-life/

so far can't find the cycle count. normally i use a desktop pc so not too concerned about batteries.

Thanks again for this. My 7300 just arrived. Showing "-" cycles, 56,286 mWh capacity against a design of 60,002. I'm happy with it unless someone tells me I should be wary of something.

There is no reason anyone should buy these when you can buy latest gen refurbished one's with 2 year warranty for $385. This is no longer active but wanted to share to give people an idea that there are cheaper and newer options if one can wait for a bit

Costco also has regular sales on laptops starting at 400-450 which will be much faster and have warranty

that is 3x as much as some of these with coupon ($139)
