It's not that much harder to make a good cocktail. Especially these days with there being a million YouTube tutorials on any kind you could possibly make. I'd save the money personally. You'll likely be able to make a better cocktail yourself.
My friend had a similar machine, and the drinks just weren't very good. I honestly haven't heard great things about this model either.

It isn't hard to make coffee either, but people have Keurig machines.
Because they're:
1. single serve
2. everyone can have something different
3. no one is stuck playing bartender all night. Pop in a capsule, hit a button and a minute later you have a drink.
I was a bartender for 6 years. Does this match the drink quality of a professionally made drink? No. But it's definitely passable, and some of them are much better than that even. I've never had anyone complain about any of the Bartesian drinks when were pull ours out when we have friends over. Plus, who keeps a bottle of Chambord or other one off liqueur in their cabinet?
The only thing to note, you must remove the capsules immediately after use. Otherwise you'll gum it up and have to do more cleaning cycles.

You would need basic spirits as the capsules only provide flavors.
