I think the listing on Midway is wrong. This is not the LTE with carbon fiber liners per the details on the page. 4.9 oz is the weight of the normal Pentagon XR, the LTE would be 3.6 oz I think. The list price on the LTE is also $50 higher than this listing. The sale price is $209.99, not $89.99.

$89.99 was the sales price of the black handled Pentagon XR I picked up in November. Except there was a 40% off coupon at the time that brought it to $54. I do not think this is a deal.

The LTE version would be a deal at $89.99 as that is a very significant weight reduction but I do not believe that is what you are going to receive.

Is there any practical difference between this knife and a similar sized $20 Gerber knife from Amazon?
This is a much superior blade steel.

I heard the Pentagon always recommends that our soldiers bring a knife to a gun fight

I figured that was the case, but practically what's different? Will it hold its sharpness longer?

Yes, blade steel is graded on edge retention, brittleness or toughness, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening. You should Google this type of steel.

I had a little Leatherman multi that set off the metal detector at the Pentagon and was confiscated. Miss the pliers on that little sucker.

Why is this a great price for a smaller folding knife??? What am I missing here?
This isn't a small folding knife. CTS-XHP is also very good steel. Not only is it used for knives, but it's also often used in the aerospace industry due to its properties. XR lock (crossbar) is also a nice feature to have.

XHP is in the same range of S30V/S35VN/S45VN. It's a mid-range steel.

If you follow the thread, I was replying to someone who asked how it compares to a $20 Gerber. Do you have a $20 Gerber with Maxamet?

I got this deal for $54 from November's deal posted, since they ran out of the original posts deals at $54, it's it's a nice figidetting tools, I had my local GS put a Wicked Edge mirror finish on it. I personally didn't like it for me, I bought 2 to give away as Christmas gifts, but regardless of my opinion it's a nice blade.

Yes. You can compare as there's a blue lte on midway site and can see price is double this deal when adding to cart.

search for 729857013284 on midways site then
Compare weight and description to original listing

It has the bloodletter design for stab stab lol.
Calling that a blood groove was a marketing gimmick to make it sound dangerous and cool. It's called a fuller and it's designed to reduce weight without weakening the structure of blade. This one is so thin, it's just for cosmetic purposes.
