Fast, strong and small! Exactly like my wife love it.
1. can PS5 access drives faster than 550MB/S during file transfer? yes, it can, the interface is USB 3 Gen 2 so it is rated 10Gb/s (1.25GB/s). and you will likely see that when you TRANSFER TO external drive. However, due to extremely slow write speed of the internal NVME (yes, Sony's flash has garbage speed for writing), copy from regular hdd/ sata ssd or nvme ssd takes about the same amount of time) to internal sony NVME.
2. does PS5 read drive faster than 550MB/S during gaming? no. no PS4 games can take advantage of full SATA speed (in fact, almost none of the games other than some PS5 titles can take advantage of half of SATA speed due to almost all game engine designed for no faster than 200MB/s disk access speed, that's why changing older console's storage from HDD to SSD can at most give you half the load speed in game, when the hardware is capable of doing 4 or 5X the speed.
