FYI I have the XTC2 (non tilt version of this rack) and I've fit 29 x 2.8 tires on it no problem. In fact, I also have the 'fat' bike kit (I use on the same bike when I have the 26 x 4.0" wheelset on)... but I actually prefer to use the narrower 'stock' setup with 29 x 2.8 because they fit more snuggly. It's an older model, so not sure if they changed anything, just my experience.

I was going go grab this but saw that it's only compatible with tires up to 2.5" in width. They do sell a base kit for bigger bikes for $55. Just be mindful to factor that in to the total price if you have bikes with bigger width wheels.

I might give it a shot but the Sync'r I got has a 27.5x3.0 tires. Maybe just let the air out a bit. Thanks

I'd imagine you'll be fine. The nice thing about the design of these racks, they inherently very secure with lots of redundancy built in. A couple weeks ago I brought a friend fat biking for the first time, so I had my loaner bike with 26 x 4" tires in the 'skinny' part of the rack. It wasn't ideal but it got the job done.
The Thule is 3x+ more expensive, is a very well known high quality brand and probably has undergone extensive R&D.
This exact "Swagman" model is sold under various random company names.. I'll go out on a limb here and say they all come out of the same factory.
Does that make it a bad product? no, not at all. Just remember you pay for what you get. Do you want something that will do the trick and get you by or do you want to spend more for a premium product?

I had a similar model and have now the 4 bike version. It is more than adequate for most purposes. I carry both MTBs and road bikes with no problems. My friends have more expensive One Ups or Kuats. I own higher-end bikes. Are they bike racks better? Of course. Would I trade with them? No. It does what I need and I'd rather spend more on my bikes. In the end we ride the same roads or trails and we are all happy with our choices.
The only thing I'd suggest is to look for the model that folds up towards the car, especially if you plan on leaving it on the car. This one sticks out a fair amount and makes backing up and parallel parking more challenging. Also.,for some cars it can interfere with opening the trunk, despite the tilting. Whether it does or not it depends on the car and the position of the hitch receiver. For example, my Subaru Ascent has the receiver up high near the opening of the truck. The trunk gate hits the top of the rack even when tilted. It wasn't a problem for my older car with a receiver positioned lower.

Totally agree. I have a similar one but I only use it for road trips. Or going out with friends. Having it on when grocery shopping is not fun.
