On my lot I have a 5200 sf house on a bluff, and a cabin 40 ft lower in elevation and 600 ft away through a heavily forested path. Would something like this work to get Wi-Fi to the cabin? I'm guessing no, but thought I would ask.

I bought a set a couple of months ago and returned it. I have 1Gbps service and was getting about 100Mbps or less at the furthest point in the house using this. Replaced it with the TpLink set from Costco (the Wifi6e 3 pack) and now I get about 600Mbps at the same location, both sets were tested using wireless backhaul.

Do you have a cat 5/6 ran out there? If not, this system would not even come close to getting you wifi out there. If you have a cable, Nest mesh with wired backhaul would take care of your issue.

If you have electricity from the house to the cabin, you might be able to use a system that utilizes that to send the signal. They perform well in homes.

It would most likely have to be fiber to get data across that distance. Cat5/6 is limited to 100 meters so about half their distance. I'm not very familiar with the ethernet over power adapters as mentioned by others, but I'd suspect that would still be a tall ask for that system from what I've seen with a few single structure tests.Maybe those are better now.

Running fiber down a bluff in such a way that it survives over time... that sounds like a heck of a project.

Last month when T-Mobile was offering the $25/mo wireless internet service I wanted to try it out but not impact my current home network/Google Fiber setup. My wife works from home and I didn't want to incur her wrath if my testing affected her. So I thought I'd configure a parallel network and move things over a piece at a time. Anyway I had to place the T-Mobile router in a corner of the house distant from where the Google Fiber/Router was for the best 5g tower signal. There was no way I could connect the T-Mobile router to my network switch to service the hardwired devices so I bought this system from a fellow who was selling it on the cheap.I placed one of the satellites near my switch. Problem solved. To make a long story short I was surprised that the T-Mobile service was robust enough to replace the Google Fiber service and this Nighthawk mesh has been flawless. Sure it isn't the latest and greatest but I have near 30 devices connected via hardwire and wireless distributed through a 3 floor 3200sq ft. home and I haven't gotten yelled at once!
