A 144hz ips display isn't "crappy" for gaming

Don't buy MSI laptops. I purchased an MSI Raider GE 66 raider in 2021 and my MSI laptop hinge snapped and back panel popped out. MSI is aware of this issue and does nothing to fix it. A fix costs about $300. RMA? It usually happens 2 years after warranty expires. Poor quality control and construction. Save yourself the headache. Google "MSI hinge issue."

Official Acer refurbs on eBay are better deal IMO. Some of them as low as $629 for 3060.

I got one too and have had no issues... Best laptop I've ever owned honestly and my first MSI... Sorry to hear of your bad experience

Having owned over 40 laptops, I can say MSI is a lower tier brand. Fit and finish are just OK, not great. Horrible trackpads, and their service(bad screen) was mediocre at best. Unsure I would buy another given the higher quality brands out there, but this is a good price if only going by the specs.

I mean, it's a gaming laptop. I never recommend a laptop if the primary use is gaming. I will say specs for the price look pretty good. 16GB ddr4 at 3200. Only 512GB nvme, but can be upgraded. I would say this is a good deal, but once again if the main intent is gaming, buy a PC. If you need a laptop for "reasons" go for it.

What about if I do a little gaming and a little video editing, and also want to sometimes carry my computer around? Then wouldn't a laptop with an OK graphics card make sense?

The recommendation for video editing is 32GB to handle the programs. I am not an expert since I do not do any video editing but from what I hear, 32GB is the sweet spot, and this only has 16. And once again my advice is never go laptop for gaming. I would only say get a laptop if gaming is like 25-30% of its purpose and the rest is for editing and maybe like work purposes. Yes it is sometimes cool to game and be able to take the hardware with you, but I can speak from experience, a PC is a much better option. With all that said I am not you, so your life might require you to travel or something so it might make more sense. Also note a 3050 ti is low end last gen graphics so new games even at 1080 might be meh

If only I could convince everyone to build their own PC I'm gonna link a video, give it a watch the first build is for an 800$ gaming pc. And this makes it easy to upgrade to 32gb ram in the future. Good luck! If you do go with the laptop I will say, specs are not horrible for the price, if you really want a laptop to gane on. Have a great day!
