Yeah, I used to love Costco and did most of my grocery shopping there, but I very rarely shop there anymore due to the insane price increases. I do the math on some items and it turns out to be no different than buying it full price at Kroger or wherever. I've mostly switched to Sam's and been very happy. Also, what is up with the prime meat shortage at Costco? That was one of my last remaining reasons to go there every week. Zero prime anything at any Costco in my area.
The comments in here are so odd. Went to my local Costco first time in months- all the food prices were down. 2 dozen eggs were high, like $4.00 for 24 eggs, limit 2 but everything else was prepandemic pricing. Maybe it's regional ???

Agreed. If you shop smarter (which I think more people are) there's definitely better deals to be had. A local grocery store near us sells 3 dozen brown eggs for $6.99 which has been killer for a family that eats a ton of eggs. (Again I know egg prices differ nationwide, my Costco never has eggs, and 18 white eggs have been $7.99+ everywhere).

Wow Eggs are $8 for 24 from Costco in NE Florida. This is as of yesterday. Also the eggs are SMALL. Not like what you used to see from a typical "large" egg.

My area has always been cheap eggs. I'd get 18pk on sale for $1 like every 3-4 weeks and load up then. Lately they've all been crazy prices except Costco was the last holdout for decent egg prices at like $2.25/doz up until a month or so ago when it jumped to $3.50/doz, which seems to still be slightly better then grocery store regular prices

Maybe. I have watched the prices soar over the past 1-2 years in Dallas. 30-50% increases. I always bring up the fake sales, too. Go in one week and say a salad mix is $4.99, next week there is a "sale" and the same item is now $7.99 - 3.00 = $4.99 SALE! Ugh. Sam's Club is more honest in that department - they don't price adjust on items purchased in the store because prices can fluctuate and if they do a price drop - THEY LIST THE DAMN DATE OF THE LAST PRICE AND WHAT IT WAS ORIGINALLY PRICED AT ON THAT DATE. On sale for $4.99, last list price was $10.99 on XX/XX/XXXX, even on super clearance items.

I cannot believe I am complimenting the Walmart Inc. Peeps for honesty in pricing. And their staff is so freaking nice at the Sam's Club I normally go to- they play music and it's just a fun atmosphere. I have a Sam's Plus membership(in addition to my Costco Exec membership) and their CS(phone/chat/email/etc.) has also blown me away. Seriously, me from two years ago is side-eyeing me hard for everything coming out of my mouth right now.

Yes, regional supply chain issues and also, their suppliers are raising prices and reducing packaging. I noticed many products are smaller but prices are slightly higher than before.

My local Costcos literally have ZERO supply of eggs right now. You can't even buy them overpriced. Word is that the largest feed supplier in the US changed their formula or something and chickens stopped laying eggs, but people chalked it up to them just laying less eggs for the winter, since it happens. People saying within days of them changing the feed the eggs are coming back.

Coupled that with some kind of bird flu that wiped out a lot of huge chicken farms as well, it was basically a perfect storm for this.

The good news is the supply chain is going to self-fix itself within months now as the eggs are finally coming back. But ya, Costco I think buys regionally and where I am in Arizona, just this last week went into Costco and I was told they were not even able to get shipment of eggs for a couple weeks now.

Costco sources much higher quality products, though. It's crazy how many food products they have that are USDA Organic. It's not a fair 1:1. Most of the products at Walmart/Target/Aldi are not organic. You have to specifically seek those out. At Costco, it seems like every other product is organic. The products they sell usually have far superior ingredients list as well. All of this is important for healthier eating. I go to Sam's Club and it's like waking up in the 1990s where your packaged food offerings were one-size fits all. Costco they actually realize consumers' preferences are calling for alternatives to unhealthy artificially flavored and chemically sprayed products.

Go look at the oils, especially avocado and olive oils. They sell the few brands that actually score 100% in independent lab testing for authenticity. You may find avocado oil for $1 cheaper elsewhere, but it's cut with canola oil. Same with olive oil. The fraud in the cooking oil industry is off the charts.

So Costco is very deliberate with what they purchase, and that's something very overlooked or not even realized by shoppers. My brother swears by Aldi's, and I've gone there a little bit more. However, you have to be a lot more diligent. Several of Aldi's oils tested for lower quality and were cut with cheaper oils passed off as avocado/olive. So while Aldi's may be cheap with SOME products, there's also a minefield of products that aren't what they're marketed as.

Also, I buy laundry detergent and other consumer staples at Costco that are far cheaper than competitors. Not sure where people buy that stuff, but Target is dramatically more expensive.
