Keep the 6100. I've used all levels of Sonicare Toothbrushes and the 6100 is the sweet spot. Though the 4100 is effective at cleaning, its vibration insulation is horrible. It's loud and vibrates way too much through the hands. The 6100 is not only more effective, albeit not drastically, it's more importantly quieter and more comfortable in hand.
Yeah, I'm a dentist and I agree with your dentist. It's oscillating as opposed to vibration with sonicare.
Replying to both of you. I don't have any research offhand that says one is better than the other, so take it with a grain of salt. It's just my professional opinion, which may differ from other professional opinions. I don't think the vibrating is bad per se, but the oscilating is more of a movement overall and so probably clears away more plaque with less manual movement. I don't think the vibrating alone without manual movement will clear away much plaque. There's a reason the hygienists' instruments (prophy cup) spin, not vibrate. If you had a vibrating mop and an oscillating mop, which do you think would leave your floor more clean? Kinda the same idea

Great toothbrush. I brought 2 about 2 months ago directly from the Phillips website and with a coupon code they were a tiny bit cheaper.

Charge lasts well over a week and my teeth feel cleaner and I think look a little cleaner. It has a pretty strong cleaning motor. I just got some replacement knockoff heads from Amazon and they work well too. For $30 this is a great toothbrush, and I can't see the $100-$200+ ones being worth the price.

I had very expensive toothbrush for almost $300 that I lost on the train during my trip in Europe, so I switched to 4100 series and never looked back, even my dentist told me he don't see any difference "before and after".

These are great for getting people to brush where so many cavities develop and for preventing you from brushing too hard. Highly recommend!

Damn, just bought a pack of two for $70 or $80 from Costco the other day. But it's the 6100 version.

Replacement heads are very costly now. Any recommendations where to buy those?

I bought a 10 pack of the "toptheway" ones on Amazon, they had the most/highest reviews. They work great, I can't tell a difference between them and the one that the 4100 came with.
