I've always had good luck with Whirlpool appliances except for dishwashers. The racks are metal and coated with some cheap crap that comes off and the racks rust and the pins fall off, usually they start rusting within a year. The racks cost an arm and a leg to replace so not worth it. I bought a Bosch 5 years ago. It was only a few bucks more and has been stellar to a Whirlpool in every way. The racks are nylon and as good as the day I bought it. The highest rated one is also the cheapest one on Consumer Reports. So my suggestion is to spend $70 more and get the Bosch. And for the record, I thought the Bosch was all hype. It wasn't.

Any of them but 800 series is the top rated and most expensive
I used to have a Bosch dishwasher, pretty easy to repair thankfully. I had to do I think three repairs on it. This was about ten years ago, they also didn't have heated drying elements. With all of that said, I loved it.

Fyi, on the product page it says these racks are nylon. Maybe the newer models of Whirlpool have fixed the rust problem?

Thinking to go for it. Any negatives?
We didn't have this exact model, but a very similar 47dB model purchased from Lowe's. The dishwasher itself was pretty good. 47dB is very quiet and it cleaned very well. I did have to replace the top rack assembly with the wheels. It's made of plastic and broke after a year; I bought a metal aftermarket kit on Amazon and it took about 30 minutes to replace.

Now the really really bad: 25 months after purchase the dishwasher started leaking unpredictably during the cycle. My very experienced appliance guy could not pinpoint the cause to any of the traditional culprits so we concluded it must be the control board. Long story short, I replaced it with a Bosch.

Bosch or Miele? Based on review, seems like Miele also makes decent dishwashers.

Can this work as a stand alone or does it need to be installed inside of a cabinet?

should be able to work as a stand alone. just build a plywood box around it and use it like a table/counter top.

I have seen a post before that stated if you did not need the installation and haul away, Costco would give a discount. Is this true? If so, how much discount and how does one get it?

We've had our current Whirlpool Dishwasher for 10 years and it has nylon racks. It was more of a mid-range model and definitely not the high end stainless steel tub models. ABSOLUTELY NO ISSUES with our 10 year old NYLON RACKS (nothing to rust).

And this model currently offered has NYLON RACKS.

I bought a whirlpool wdt970 4 years ago and had the same problems. The plastic rack wheels broke and I replaced them with metal ones from Amazon.

I also had a small leak 2 years in and from YouTube found out it was due to a bad diverter seal grommet. I replaced it with one I found on Amazon.

I haven't had any issues since.

I found out more than I wanted to know about dishwashers during this ordeal. A bad diverter seal is a common issue and fortunately a pretty easy fix. Top 2 causes of leaks are float switches and diverter seals. Both are fixable yourself.

One week after the 4 year warranty with the Costco card expired on appliances. Sigh.

You might be talking about a particular model which is not very popular. I bought Bousch 500 series from Lowes last month and it was delivered in 3 days.

FWIW, I was at my local Bosch dealer last week and they said Bosch is quoting 14 month lead time for their dishwashers right now.
