Happy Lunar New Year!

This is the cheapest price I've seen on the Carlinkit 4.0, at $47 shipped after coupon. Previous FP deal had this for ~$59.

Use code: SDDC47 for $12.99 off the product with free shipping. Coupon expires Feb 10th.

For those wondering wtf this is, it's to add wireless capability to your existing OEM wired Android Auto or Apple Carplay head units.

Yes they work. I have the 3.0 and 4.0 in two separate vehicles and I can't imagine not having them.

I have an older model and yes, it works perfectly. Setup was easy, so long your radio recognizes it. Having wireless CarPlay is awesome.

No because that radio did not support CarPlay. The radio itself needs to be CarPlay enabled.

There is a bluetooth adapter for that old plug:

If you really want to bite the bullet there is also a motherboard upgrade for $600:

I hope I am a kind soul and I hope to answer your question.
If your car has Android Auto and/or Apple CarPlay installed, but it only works if your phone/tablet is connected with a wire, this device will enable you to use Android Auto/Apple CarPlay without plugging your phone into the car.

Now for the question I don’t know if I can answer, why is that valuable?
Wouldn’t you prefer to reach your destination with a fully charged phone anyway?

I have two of these. One for my wife, Apple and Subaru, and one for me, Android and Chevrolet. Works well for her and is terrible for me. 1 out of 10 times it will automatically connect in my truck and the audio frequently changes to mono through front speakers only after a call. Some calls just won't connect. I regret buying it.
Not sure about the brand, but I would stay away from the vendor. There is a lot of variability with the device and your car and phone, so if it doesn't work out, return is not easy. I would pay more and buy on Amazon.
It's to enable wireless connectivity with your existing wired apple carplay, this should be stated in the original post

I run one in my X5. In general it works great. However, every so often (5% of the time perhaps) it doesn't connect and when it does that you have to turn the car off and back on again to get it to do so.

I saw two posts, a third possible, that this is having trouble when coolwalk is enabled for you from the server. Lag time is increased. I would bet if there is a problem a software update to it will be out.

It's really amazing that a company like Hyundai/Genesis who is on the forefront of technology can't figure out how to put wireless carplay/AA in their highest trim level. This is for pretty much all of their cars. The low trim levels have it, but their "Limited" or higher trim levels that has built in Wifi hotspot only has wired carplay/AA.

And no, it is NOT a licensing issue. Their lower trim levels HAVE wireless android auto and carplay. Their higher trim levels have wifi cell hotspot so that takes up the antenna that normally occupies the wireless AA/Carplay antenna, so no wireless AA/Carplay.

This is exactly why you should be buying something like this on Amazon or a place with easy free returns. You just never know which combination of car or phone this will work with.
