Well for basic media consumption like watching YouTube , heck yes. It is enough.

Storing photos and videos? Nope.

It has A13 chip set and 3GB of RAM.

This will be supported until 2026.

Question is if 64gb is enough in todays world….
Even with the iCloud 200gb plan, I still question the 64….

The 10th generation will not touch this price for a very long time if ever. Its been redesigned to more closely resemble the air and pro models and Apple is charging a premium for it. Also it doesn't have a headphone jack. I'd say go for this one. You'll get another solid 5 years out of it probably and you can also sell your 6th gen while it is still worth something to subsidize some of your purchase costs.

My little one has a 2018 6th gen 32GB (purchased in december 2018). the battery only lasts around 3 hours of video time, and the lack of space is kind of annoying. is it worth upgrading now or hold out for another year?

This one would offer most value.

Apple has raised base iPad price to $450 while offering same 10hr usage time.
So if you wait for another year, you'll pay $450 for same battery performance as 2021 base ipad.

I would have agreed until recently, for some users…I'm a heavy user, and I recently dropped from 256 to 128 on the Pro line…and I'm doing fine hovering around 75gb. I also have a 512 iPhone and iCloud, so I have other storage. Im saying this to establish some experience, and while i totally agree with you for most…my moms iPhone has only 20gb of 128gb filled, so for older adults that may just want movies on a plane or light computing in a hotel using streaming and internet services, I think 64gb is plenty. That said, older adults are also excellent candidates for hand-me-downs.
For anyone looking to use an iPad as a primary computing device, such as students or professionals, I'd suggest 128gb should be considered minimum.
The problem is apple knows this, that's why there is only 64 or 256gb options

That's crazy that they charge $5 for shipping with the amount I spend on a Costco gold membership per year
how about they sell you at retail price and you get free shipping?

Really wish I jumped on that 256GB iPad 9 deal for $340 at Walmart earlier this month...

Dang, I see I was thinking the 10th gen would be this price next winter too. But if I do wait until next year, wouldn't the 9th drop lower?

How much would a 6th gen with a poor battery be worth? I'm unable to check the battery health (I think the 6th gen didn't come with that capability)

I might bite on this but do you think the 9th gen could be a lot lower later this year?
I don't know what I'm going to do with the 6th gen if I get the 9th gen. It probably isn't worth much at this point with a poor battery

Very doubtful they will go lower. In all likelihood current stock will simply sell out and they will no longer be available new.

Regarding the 6th gen you might be surprised by what you can get for it. Even with a crack on the screen old ipads go for crazy money on Craigslist and Offerup.

It's enough for people looking to spend $250 on an Apple computer.

You might spend a bit of time juggling apps and media to keep storage available, but anyone with serious storage needs isn't looking at an entry level iPad anyhow.

Very true. I gave both my dad and my wife this tablet and they mainly use it for Youtube, web browsing, online shopping and reading. They still have plenty of space left. For my wife Amazon shopping is now much more responsive than on her Galaxy Tab S2.
For myself even 256GB is not enough. For photo storage and other heavy work I have 4TB SSD to cover those use cases on my gaming desktop...

I was thinking of getting an iPhone SE to keep at home as a backup for my iCloud/2FA accounts but this might be a better option.

Poor investment in my opinion; in one to two years the operating system will occupy the entire hard drive, you won't be able to run any apps, and there won't be any more updates.
I still have a 5th generation 32GB iPad from 2017 lying around. It's still getting iPadOS 16 updates and the OS is not occupying the entire hard drive.
