Because this drive and the Crucial MX500 are the best SATA III SSD's on the market. if you want cheap, then you will get less reliability and performance. if you want performance and reliability with DRAM, then you pay for one of these two drives and be happy it is down to the price it is now.

I meant SATA SSD's in general...its like 15 year old technology and costs more than nvme drives....

I think you over-estimate the percentage of consumers that actually use NVME drives (which require much more recent hardware). Money is where the masses are, and there's lots of people still running spinning platters who have yet to upgrade to SSDs
