Thanks!
Was about to buy this on amazon last night, but decided to do it this morning. It was $125.99 a few hours ago, picked one up for $99+tax.

That's a great price for a very capable lens. Never seen it for this little. It was $79 refurbished during the blow-out holiday sale. $99 new will feel like a better deal for those who don't want to buy refurbished. I'd certainly buy one if I didn't own this lens already. (I bought mine about four years ago gray market for $94.) Great price, good lens.

cheapest and best portrait prime lens. In fact the only prime lens that I own, but cheaper than all other lenses in my kit.

You can find really good deals on this lens or the older non-STM version on the secondary market sometimes, but for $99 it's probably fine just to buy new. I have the older version of this lens and as others have mentioned, it's a great portrait lens for a really low price. Having at least one wide aperture lens like this in your collection will open some opportunities that wouldn't otherwise exist.

It has been under $100 refurb from Canon even recently. Their refurbs offer the same 1-year warranty as new, so if I weren't in a hurry, I would hold out. That being said, this is a great price for new and the single biggest upgrade you can make to your entry/mid-level Canon DSLR. If you are still using a kit lens, why haven't you bought this already?

Also great for APS-C models like the 80d/90d. Just remember it is equiv to ~80mm when mounted on the smaller sensor.

Just wondering.. I've been looking at sony and canon a lot to buy a full frame. I want the sony(IV or RV) because of the amazing Tamron 35-150 lens. I've read though that the EOS 5 is amazing and there is a mkII coming out.. Is there an equiv of this lens on canon? I saw there was a cheaper one that was discontinued but I basically want a lens that can be a single "travel lens" like the 35-150. Feels like I should go canon but their lens selection seems pretty bad unless I want to fork over a ton of money in lenses...

Check out secondary markets like KEH or MPB for Canon or third-party manufacturers for EF mounted lenses, then buy the EF to RF adapter for your new R5, for example. Those lenses should be cheaper.

FYI, I've mad both the mkII version and the STM version and the newer STM is way worth it, possibly even if you own a mk2 already. focusing is just that much better for stills, and a deal breaker without it for video.

of course that my mk2 died helped my decision a lot. I got it for $79 refurb maybe 4 years ago.
