Overall bad business practice from wyze to use a proprietary USB L connection.

I can't reuse my 25ft cable for outdoor install, and there's no aftermarket long cable with that USB to be found anywhere
It's got a weird USB cable with the micro USB end shaped like the letter L. The cable plugs into the bottom of the base pointing straight upward, but the base is intended to sit or mount flush so the cable connector has a 90 degree angle to exit straight out of the back of the base.
I just glue a normal wyze cam to my pan cam lol

Wyze sells a 6" adapter if you want to use an existing cable.

You can drill out part of the plastic bracket and add a spacer nut to allow for a normal micro usb plug. That's what I did to reuse the 20ft cord I already had. Works great, but not as water resistant, since that L-plug was designed to keep water out.

Wyze doesn't manufacturer any of it's hardware. They re-license/re-brand old products made by other vendors and then create software that runs on top.

This camera is actually a 2-year old camera, that is called the ATOM Swing.

I initially was intrigued by Wyze, but since have stayed away because you're essentially buying old tech that is marketed as 'New'. Sure it's cheap, but $100 +/- to have better camera resolution, better privacy visibility, better connectors (USB-C) etc. is worth it to me.
Exactly. They aren't the OEM and don't have control of hardware design decisions. A lot of their previous cams were made by Xiaomi and they essentially make new software for it. They aren't mid-tier or pro level security cams, but for most consumers wanting cheap easy wi-fi cams, they're hard to beat.

Anyone know the current state of rtsp firmware for the regular v3? Not finding any working links but I'm sure they are out there.. the bigger question is does the firmware shipped with these units still allow downgrading?

Edit: The answer with all the good infos- https://www.reddit.com/r/wyzecam/..._firmware/
You can install wz_mini hacks to the SD card without modifying the origianl firmware, which works for rtsp.

Avoid wyze, they have had cybersecurity and privacy policies and they nickel and dime you for everything. They will no longer show alert video if you don't pay.

Bought 2 of these to use with frigate and home assistant. Works great. I have them on their own vlan without internet access and use wyze bridge to enable rtsp.

Yep. Tldr with the mini hacks you don't need the rtsp firmware however it does need to be an older firmware version. Fairly easy to downgrade.

How do you connect the cameras to the bridge? wz_mini_hacks is lacking some features and doesn't support Pan v3, Floodlight etc. Are any of the features (pan/tilt) controllable via wyze bridge or you still have to use the app?

I installed it as a docker in my unraid server.

Frigate doesn't currently support ptz control, so it would need to be done through the app. You can set up waypoints and even follow in the wyze app, and frigate will still just handle the object detection and recording. That's how I'm currently using it.

No Cam plus lite for pan v3. You can install an SD card though to semi circumvent this
Since cam lite offers minimal cloud storage, and an sd card is very much not that, this is not a circumvention but a different approach. The reasons one would want cloud might venn diagram with sd motivations, but they are not interchangeable.

Cheap cameras - But they get you on the cloud monitoring subcription price.
Do they? $2 a month vs other companies charging 100-200 for the camera plus 5-10 for cloud? You can also roll your own with wyzedockerbrudge

Overall I find them not trustworthy.
Yikes!

Personally I have a Cam Pan 2 which, like all cameras in my house, is unplugged when not actively in use. We only plug it in when we are away to watch the dog. No SD card.

The app for their latest cameras requires android 7 and at least one of the devices I use for viewing cannot upgrade to that version.

For now I'll stick to v3 and v2 cams.
Using 6 year outdated devices to access home security cams is a security problem in itself. That said, so is using a company like Wyze. I regret having my set for this reason.

More moving parts = more parts that can break. Cam Pan V2 owners know this.
You mean like a camera going into a pan sweep on reset, repeating this every couple weeks, until it literally rotates and twists enough times to pop off its own power cable to the camera module? Yeah, I'm vaguely familiar with this phenomenon. Mad
