I only mentioned Amazon because they were found guilty and paid the price.
Still, if a $36billion dollar "fine" didn't keep Bezos from cheating on his wife, I suspect a $2mil fine is not going to keep him from continuing to lie to his customers
The most bizarre part of that false reference price judgement to me is that apparently he is only prohibited from lying to his customers until 4/1/24 (April Fools? Coincidence?), after which time it's, apparently, totally OK to go back to fraud....I guess gives the State Attorney of California something to do every few years? wow.
In my area there was a store that operated for about a year called on sale. They said everything was on sale. The prices were horrible but their theory was if people think they are getting a deal you can charge whatever you want.
When kmart went under locally, they had a clearance sale for over a year, no good deals to be had.
