It's PNY. I wouldn't trust them ever (GPU,SSD, etc) as they got caught padding samples with really fast components and selling the same product with god awful performance.
I purchased this in the past because it was one of the few usb flash drives with a 512gb capacity. It was a mistake. Write speeds are slow and inconsistent. It would write at the advertised speed for a few seconds before trickling down to a crawl. You are better off purchasing Samsung's slim usb drive as those are very consistent and fast, though they top out at 256gb.

Thanks. I've been thinking up getting a new, higher capacity and hopefully faster thumb drive to replace the 128GB one I keep on my keychain, encrypted, to back up my most important files in case of fire, theft or the like at home and in case I need to revert to a previous version of a file while working on my laptop away from home. 128GB is more than enough for my core data but not enough for my photos and music as well. Even 256GB isn't enough at this point, so I really need a 512GB, which this is.
My only concern is that it's PNY and not Samsung. I worry about heat, speed and reliability. Are any of these concerns with this unit?
Also, does this come in a USB-C version? There don't seem to be many USB-C thumb drives from the major companies yet. Why is that?

I have wondered the same about heat, etc.
As a guess, usb-c throughput is higher, perhaps, the thumb drives aren't fast enough to keep up with that throughput - again, just my guess.
