It's kind of funny how there's a brigade of people who will post on anything kastking saying they're junk. No real additional info, just that they're junk.

Dude, most of their stuff is budget gear. And second, they aren't any worse than other low budget gear of 'brand' names. I've bought a whole lot of fishing gear within the last 5 years. You get what you pay for, and with brand names, you pay extra for their names. Example, I bought a pflueger 'entry level baitcast reel for $50. It was total garbage. It was worse than unknown brand or even kastking costing less than half. Why? Side plate wouldn't close back up because there was a piece of defect, the level wind was completely plastic, and magnetic breaks were so weak they didn't make much of a difference.

I'm not a huge fan of kastking for various reasons, but to go into posts just to say that they're junk with no other info makes your post pointless and no one cares.

It is $15, how serious can you be about fishing with that budget?

This will be fine for the average person who fishes here and there, so long as they understand this is intended for FW bass fishing. Don't take it out to try and catch a Tarpon.

Great deal but right handed model out of stock.
Left retrieve is better for righties anyways.
Don't have to swap hands.

This is the adult equivalent to those cartoon themed fishing pole combos. Sure you may catch a fish, but you will lose a bunch in the progress.
I never lost fish. Only because my casted lures snapped off mid flight as the reel(s) locked up. I lost a few high dollar lures on multiple Krap King reels and said never again. I also had their Conventional round reel.. Couldn't get the drag to tighten over 3 lbs. Lol. I called their tech guy and even he admitted their reels have issues. Save yourselves hassle and just buy a Daiwa, Shimano, Abu, Lew's, Bass Pro - Pro Qualifier. You'll save in the end. Trust me.

I have owned many different brands of reels and currently own several Kastking spinning and baitcasting reels. These are more than fine for fresh water fishing. I am right handed but prefer using a left handed reel (just like spinning reels) where you do not have to switch hands after every cast, especially when plug fishing with rapid repeated cast. For $15 now would be a good time to try a left handed reel.
Most of the guys I fish with reel with their left as I do. This is one of the reasons I give when I get annoyed someone has changed one of my rods to the other side! Plus why not fight a fish with your dominate hand?

I agree to a point. My spinning rods I use left retrieve. Baitcasters I like to palm so regardless I have to switch the rod around. That's why I stick with right hand retrieves.

It's 15 bucks. Who cares if it breaks after a year of use. Just buy another one. You'll have to go through a dozen to pay for that Shimano

For a beginner to baitcasting, can I get away with putting this on a spinning rod for a while?

Not at all, most everything about the rod is different, bigger eyes on a spinning rod, the mounting area is different as well in size.

Yes, you should be able to mount it to a spinning rod. You're just going to have less casting accuracy and you'll be missing the grip for your index finger.

This is pretty much the Kia of fishing reels.
