Remember when initializing the drive to select GPT and not MBR; the latter supports only disks 2TB or less, unless some actual expert has some better advice here on that. My only expertise in this is that I just finished doing it successfully for the first time. laugh out loud

Also, when initializing the drive in Disk Management, make sure you select the option to assign a drive letter. The way i understood it, if you select the no drive letter option, you won't be able to see the drive in Explorer.

The howtogeek walkthrough is very clear. Take your time, and be sure to click on the embedded links for more information on the topics so highlighted in the text if you are unsure of or want more information on those topics.
