You can buy Japan made Seiko on AliExpress? Can you share?
Agree Aliexpress has some great watches, although none with anywhere near the brand pedigree of Seiko.

2 serious questions though, since you see a lot of these in your business:

1) Are Aliexpress watches in frequent need of repair then?
2) Very surprised anyone would bring a $100 watch to a watch maker for repair (unless it has tremendous sentimental value or you have very good rates). If the later, do you accept repair orders by mail? I have a few vintage watches I'd love to be worked on but always assumed it would be too expensive.
In the past I would say the same..but, I have seen some stuff in person that I think are very competitive. This for example.

Black Ceramic Bezel 41mm Steeldive 30ATM Water Resistant NH35 Automatic Mens Dive Watch Reloj

My job is watch repair. I've got a local friend is always busy not stuff like this, so I get to see different stuff from AliExpress regularly. I'm constantly impressed.

1) Depends on the specific brand. A few brands like Pagani, Steeldive and even the cheap chronograph Sugess I've seen the most. I even ordered about 8 of the Sugess watches and flipped them. They all needed a bit of regulating and demagnetization out of the box. I only had one come back for an issue with the chronograph pusher. The rest that I've dealt with have been solid. The bracelet alone on many of the homages are super solid. And for $100 or so, I don't even understand how they make the entire watch. The Seiko doesn't hold a candle to them when comparing just the bracelet. Let alone that you're getting a bigger case and an NH35 versus a 7S26.

2.) I have done repairs via Facebook groups, here, eBay, and also do local jewelry stores and even non local ones that all mail me work. Feel free to PM me. Depending on the repair, yes it may not be economical, but I deal with a lot of people that spend more because they are sentimental or maybe just discontinued and they simply like the style and spend the money.
I think Sugess uses Seagull movements so this makes sense as it's basically the cheapest possible reliable auto chrono movements.

Still, AliExpress watches easily give you the best bang for your buck-it's kind of sad that they are essentially becoming what Seiko USED to be (good quality, relatively cheap entry point to a quality watch. Seiko has been cutting corners for years in order to maximize profits and currently this is VERY evident.

I have basically this watch. It fell off on my dresser once and hasn't worked properly since. I've not tried to have it fixed because it would be as much as the watch. Can I just replace the insides myself? It bothers me that I have this lovely watch that doesn't work. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Depends on what the problem is. Dropping many mechanical movements can cause all sorts of problems. But, the specific problem is unknown until someone takes a look at it. Replacing the movement is a tedious job and requires a few specific tools and knowhow. Removing and replacing hands, removing the dial, etc. Plus the cost of the movement obviously.

Nice, classic watch. Bracelet is junk. (Most are at this price point.) Put it on a good leather strap and it will look way more expensive than it is. Guaranteed to draw compliments.

No hacking or handwinding is a no go for me - even at this price. For $100, I'll take a Pagani. Yep! It's a soulless, unapologetic rip off of design, but solid links, solid end links, sapphire, and hacking/hand winding.

I bought a "slickdeal" Seiko with same auto movement. Within a year the winding weight screw came loose.

Paganis are nice but buying a "rip off" watch just feels... wrong, somehow.

How is this even a deal? Rolled and hollow links. Just buy a watch for the same price on AliExpress way better.
I was kind of thinking the same thing. I know I am going to sold curmudgeonly, but I think my 3 fives sitting in a watch box were around $50 each. Have they gone up that much? They are awesome for $50 but do not feel like $100+ watches to me. Haven't looked, but the Orient Mako was the go to $100 watch not that long ago.

I have this watch. It was my first foray into the world of automatic watches, and for that purpose it's good. But I wouldn't recommend it when you can get a Tissot for just a bit more. I like Seiko, but this watch doesn't have sapphire crystal so will get scratched up, the bracelet feels cheap, and it's not amazingly accurate but not horrible either. If this is your budget, definitely get this over a fossil or something like that, but if you can spend a little bit more, try for a Tissot with sapphire crystal

You can buy a replica with the gen movement or you can buy all the parts and assemble yourself. Quality is quite good and it's fun to make your own.

Personally had bad experience with Jomashop. Bought an SNKL23 that was claimed to be the j1 "Made in Japan" version, but turned out to be the k1 made in Malaysia and they refused to refund or replace it, claiming that it was the correct/same one. This clearly was not true because 2 years later, right outside the warranty period, the mechanism broke and the watch died on me. Made in Japan models are historically more reliable, so I would check to make sure you're receiving the correct version. Just sharing my experience.

Here is my two cents.
There is no reason for a 100$ generic automatic watch to exist. Anything decent starts are 500$ plus, and they sit on shelve collecting dust. For a dailly driver, a nice quality quartz like the prx. A lot less hassle than a cheap automatic. As for aliexpress, well, watches nowdays are more jewelry than tools, and I definitely don't wan t to be the guy who buys jewelry from aliexpress

You are comparing an $80+ no name watch from Aliexpress to $100ish watch from Seiko? You have to be kidding me. You would want to risk no name quality, overseas shipping, customs seizing, expensive returns to save $20ish????? Maybe if the aliexpress watch was like $30, maybe.

For $80 if that is what you have to spend, just get an Invicta Pro diver automatic. It is more than fine (I have one that I use for travelling to foreign countries that I don't want to risk bringing my real submariner).
