True, but it's pretty nerfed compared to R6 II. No IBIS,only one card slot, shorter battery life etc.

I got it for $1397 with the 9mm 1.7 lens a couple months ago. This is not a deal with the S5II being the same price.

As a former G9 GH5s owner, I want to share that I moved on to a
Sony A74. Unless you already have Panny lenses, give the Sony
a chance. So happy now camera wise, I could cry happy tears : )

You can get the A7iv for about the same cost. GM lenses, well, are another cost but worth it.

With all the full-frame cameras out there and some moves toward the even bigger medium format sensor is this still worth it?

If you like to shoot slowmo, YEA! Not much can compete with its 4k 120 10bit mode at this price. But if you don't really need that then yeah there are definitely other options. More importantly it comes down to the lens system. I have the Leica 10-25 and it's quite good. Crossing my fingers that a new gh6 m2 or something comes out that has great autofocus.

The new Canon R8 isn't that bad - just announced for $1499 and it's full frame and does 4K60 10-Bit.

I'm still hoping even just the body to come down $1400 then I'll pull the trigger.

I assume people are getting these high end panny micro 4/3s for videos. No way this can be worth it for still photography for this money compared to FF or even most APS-C systems.

This, you really need to know if someone leaving a review or even a short comment on cameras like this was using them for video as they're intended, or using them for photos because they have no idea what they're doing.

I've seen way too many comments and customer reviews from people complaining about cameras like the GH5, GH6, and other video-specific cameras from others than Panasonic, when they were using them as still photography cameras. The only reason they can even take still photos is so manufacturers can check off the box, these are 100% video focused. That's literally why they were designed and built. This is like complaining that the chef's knife you bought doesn't make a very good axe.

As a side note, it's wild that the original GH5 is only just now dropping below $600 used on ebay. Shooting in 4K is still wicked expensive if you're on a tight budget.

As a GH5/GX8 owner, I agree. I love my A7IV as well, but just note that this camera has no open gate (great for social media flexibility), no record to SSD, no 4k 120fps, and will crop at 4k 60fps.

The Lumix S5II is also a great full frame hybrid shooter with open gate and no overheating/limit on video. For those that want more video features, the S5IIx will release soon with many of the GH6 video features like SSD record, all-intra prores recording, raw video out, and IP streaming. If I hadn't owned an A7IV already, I might have gone for the S5II/S5IIx, but the cheap great performing third party Sony lenses (like the Tamron f/2.8s) keeps me on the A7IV.

For those that aren't concerned about IBIS and dual card slots, the new Canon R8 is one of the best entry options to release (full frame, 4k 60FPS, no crop at $1500). For most shooters on a tripod or with stabilized lenses, this is very appealing as 4k 60fps video with no crop is usually reserved for much more expensive bodies (Sony A7sIII) or bodies with an APS-C or smaller sensor (GH6, FX30, etc.).

All of these full frame cameras have phase detect autofocus, which is the main feature many have wanted in the GH6. Aside from the GH6's 100MP image handheld feature, many photographers wanting to stick to micro 4/3 will likely opt for the Olympus OM-1 for having phase detect autofocus, Live ND, and better battery life.

As much as I love the price and smaller sized lens of micro 4/3, it's hard to justify owning a GH6 when the S5IIx is just around the corner.

I picked up this camera with that lens kit from best buy a few months ago for $1700 plus tax. It was an open box store display model with literally no use. Very happy with it so far, slow motion is great and has tons of recording formats. SSD recording is a great addition aswell. In body image stabilization is one of the best I've seen. Overall very happy with it.

Good, fair post my friend!

" no record to SSD," - Does that mean one cannot use a Atomos Ninja or similar?

As an alternative to a real camera or phone, I can recommend the DJI Pocket 2

Colors can be pushed a bit too. The key with these is high-quality ND filters
to get the right amount of light to the sensor as they are very few adjustments available.

I assume they are taking about recording from the USB to an SSD. The Atomos Ninja is an HDMI recorder, you would still be able to use one to record external.

I'm an original GH5 owner that uses a Ninja V and it's a great combo.

Ah, yes that is true...HDMI. Thanks.
