ITT, multiple people shopping backpacks to pack mule groceries. When has backpacking your normal groceries ever been a thing? I've literally never seen a person load their regular groceries onto their back. A bike sure, a grandma utility cart sure, a backpack no; if you find yourself human powering your groceries home, there are better solutions than a backpack.

To criticize a camping backpack based on that criteria is an absurd thing. That's not what this bag was designed for. It was designed to be the lightest bag at this pricepoint at a level of durability/capacity/comfort consistent with doing 3-5 day hikes. This is like pointing out how loud trail runners are on asphalt or how bad a sports car is at towing. Your critism isn't meaningful to anyone who intends to use this for what it was designed for.
Beware of the 35lb weight rating.
I bought one of these, the Granite Crown 2, a couple years ago. I've packed 40 lbs into it for a 3 day hike through the desert and mountains (Big Bend, TX). Had to carry all 25 lbs of water since we couldn't rely on the normal water sources that time of year.

How comfortable is it when packing? My Osprey is awesome but now I need another for my teenage son.

How's this compare to something like the Osprey Exos? Main concern would be the breatheability of the back— this doesn't look to reassure in that regard, and otherwise just taking cues from usage stats like https://www.halfwayanywhere.com/t...#backpacks since I figure they broadly know what they're doing

(have at least 5000 miles on a Granite Gear Vapor Trail from a decade+ back that's getting a bit long in the tooth… bought a Gregory Baltoro to see how a maximalist pack performs but no matter how I adjust it I get some gnarly hip chafing after 5-10 miles :/)

This pack weighs less than two and a half pounds and is designed for lightweight backpacking. I suspect the 35 pounds is a comfort rating.

Take that back, it's the frame rating. Still it's designed for light loads. Lots of packs weigh two to three times as much.

No, there are no straps on the bottom. There are two loop on the bottom front but nothing on the back side. You could probably run a string thru the pocket that the hip belt runs thru to hold something lightweight.

Killer deal for a legit lightweight backpack

It's really best for 30lb loads or less, and this is way better than buying from cheap alibaba overseas backpacks. Granite Gear is legit. It's pretty rare to find a reputable company with a lightweight backpack for this price.

I think REI also carries these, if you need to check your fit first.
