DIY isnt much more, get a better NVMe and case to fit your needs.
If you want an easier way out, buy a bare crucial ssd (or other brand) & external enclosure for something a little less.
Another option is buy a USB 3.x to sata connector and plug it with your bare ssd and you got somewhat of a naked portable option. (You just have to be careful and baby it from drops, damages, disconnects, etc...)
A user posted above to get an nvme with an enclosure works well, too.
Of all the options listed above, I have and do use all 3 for their own purposes.
