Honestly, I wouldn't pay $1400 for this model. Better to pay an extra $400 or so for the M1 Pro 14" (discounted to $1799 some places - even seen some refurbished for the same price as this) A lot of extras for your money and way better performance for some tasks.

The M1 Pro 14" is (was) regularly $1599 on sale (Amazon, Costco, Bestbuy), so only $200 more if you can find a deal still on the M1 Pro 14".

EDIT: Just checked and Costco [costco.com] has the Space Grey in stock for $1599. Valid thru 2/10/23.

Definitely better than this deal for only $200 more.

Why's it considered so much better with an older chip?

It's not really "older" -- just different.

It's like comparing a current generation Ryzen 3 or i3 to a Ryzen 5 / i5 of last generation.

The M1 Pro is faster in multithreading and GPU related tasks.

Also, the MacBook Pro 14 has a significantly better screen that's 120Hz and local dimming, plus HDMI and an SD card slot.

They set the fan curve not to kick in until very high so they're quiet, but even with a higher temp chips - the laptop itself isn't hot from reviews I've seen on Youtube.

The market is absolutely saturated with MacBook M1/M2's. I'd wait with the anticipation of lower prices this summer and really big price cuts this Black Friday.

Agreed. They set the bar really high, or really low depending on how you look at it.

Will that one be better for video editing?

I need one to mostly use for videop editing.

This doesn't touch the TigerDirect deal that I'm still fighting customer service to un-cancel
