He's saying when your body is warm, it doesn't breath so its sweaty but when your body is cold it only reflects not insulates so its cold.

It was good info if you wanted it for outdoor sports.

I have two omni-heat lined Columbia jackets. I don't use them because when you're inactive/cold the reflective liner doesn't help much, but when you are active/warm it's like being wrapped up in a foil emergency blanket and they are way too hot and sweaty when you need the opposite. Furthermore, they don't promote layering because they are mostly on the thicker side and this one is insulated. I actually thought Colombia did away with omni-heat years ago, but I guess they still use it, just in less of their gear.

Edit: For activities, go with a quality uninsulated shell with pit zips, and then layer under it according to the insulation you need.

So this winter jacket is bad because it's…. too warm?

It's great when outside during the cold but when I am shopping around It's gets pretty warm so I have to remove it before I start to sweat

Does anyone think this would be good for skiing? I'm a beginner skier and don't want to invest a lot for the fancy jackets since I only ski a few times a year.

It's probably fine for skiing - especially if it's colder out. If you're more of a spring skier, you'd want more of a shell with some waterproofing and pit zips.

From other comments I've found online, it's really good at insulating, which can be a problem if it's not cold outside or if you're too active since it also insulates moisture

Can't wear wool in rain or snow conditions which I think this is the target climate of this jacket

Yep. I have an omniheat ski jacket. It doesn't have pit vents so it can be too much on warmer days.

Your edit looks oddly familiar.

I have 2 omni heat jackets and don't find them like this at all. I have a puffy omni heat jacket and what I love about it is that it it has so little mass that it heat up super fast. I can leave it in my truck outside in 10F as a spare jacket, toss it on and boom...im warm.

Is this a joke man? You can't ski, hike, snowboard or be active in a wool jacket. It will absorb all the moisture and freeze solid.
