I bought and returned 2 of these. The UV is useless. You still get mold and mildew growing at the bottom if you don't completely clean it out every 2-3 days.

The center shaft where the fog comes out is also impossible to clean as it's blocked off on both ends.

The only plus is that it is very quiet and it holds 2 gallons of water.

I have one of these for about 6 months. I find that the UV is more of a nightlight, I don't feel it does anything to reduce the cleaning frequency.

I do use distilled water, and cleaning this units is very easy in my opinion. Mostly everything comes apart into smaller pieces quite easily including the lid/spout. For the center tube that the mist travels through I can easily use a bottle cleaning brush from the bottom (open) end to the top.

The bottom end has a small clear plastic cap that can be removed for cleaning and to give you access to the center tube.

I enjoy a proper clean, lately I have been using a flosser to direct water into smaller crevices to effectively blast clean, and to really get those hard to reach spots in the center tube.

The operation is fairly quiet compared to my other humidifier (homedics from costo). I wish it had either a remote or any "smart" capabilities to be able to schedule and control.

I have connected more simple humidifiers with basic knob control [costco.com]to smart plugs - this would allow you to remotely turn on/off. This Winix humidifier and many others with digital displays are not smart plug friendly as you would be required to input variables on the machine prior to using.
